Looking for ITX with maximized space

Rabo

Long story short I'm looking for a good ITX case that will allow for proper cooling with a graphics card and 240mm radiator and can also, if a case that does this exists, house an optical drive. I don't have a TV and would love to be able to watch DVDs on my computer, but if you guys think such a case doesn't exist or it would have too much of a detrimental effect on airflow, I might opt for an external DVD player.

You know you can put an mITX motherboard inside an mATX or ATX case too right?

Yes, but for portability it's important for me to have an actual ITX build, otherwise there would be no point in me buying an ITX motherboard.

Sounds like you want an mATX case.

Also, for the optical drive they make USB ones. For the odd time you need one.

There are some pretty compact mATX cases out there. Just sayin'.

Why do you need a 240mm rad? Are you overclocking to kingdom come?

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I want to overclock, and I already have an AIO water cooling system from my last build. If it weren't for that I would get a smaller one

@Rabo I would suggest the Corsair 250D, I had one and great PC, but it is a bit big, thats the sacrifice if you want all that stuff, but as I said it will fit your 240 Rad, Optical drive, 2x 2.5" 2x3.5" and normal sized PSU, it is also a really good looking case IMO.

yeah pretty much the problem i had with the 250D i mentioned above. That said though its only in my Workshop Pc that I've ever used more than one expansion slot so can understand the cleaner appeal of ITX.

Aye, but mATX boards are cheaper (generally), and an mATX case with what he wants is a lot easier to find and cheaper than an mITX case. I've been looking at many, many ITX cases over the past few months.

Completely agree, that said though the mATX that are cheaper often down have built in wifi which some people really like, but overall I'd always go mATX if I was building within a budget.

I love the idea of an iTX been as tiny as possible was specing up one for a friend to travel between two cities and told him straight its ether a ITX liek the Raven (RVZ02)  something he can take on carry on when he flies between houses.

Best ITX case I've found is the Firewolfy MI6. It's what I'm getting. Super small, you can fit 2 on one sheet of paper.

I plan to either get a locked i7, or delid an older one, then slap in a 1080.

The RVZ02 wasn't small enough for me. ;)

THat one is nice, just limits on GPU lenght, which guess with the 1080 ITX coming out thats not such a problem, I like the RVZ as lay it on its side and its so little space.

I wouldn't mind buying the Intel Extreme NUC and VESA mounting it, than on the desk just have a External GPU case, that'll really look tiny and still gives me some upgrade options.

Yeah having WiFi is big for me. By the sound of it it would be better to go with the external disk drive to save space. I don't think they've been mentioned in this thread yet, but I'm also looking at the bitfenix prodigy and phanteks enthoo itx

Yeah, that's definitely a huge downside, but I don't really need much more than a 1070 anyway, and now that that 1080 was released it's absolutely perfect for me.

I'd thought about that, but the external enclosures alone are often bigger than the full ITX cases I was looking into.

As according to your guys' recommendations I'm ditching the optical drive idea. What cases would you recommend that can give proper cooling to the graphics card and 240mm radiator that is still small and portable?

The NCase M1 ticks all your demands. If the price is too steep, maybe look for a used one online?

If you cannot find a small enough case to fit an optical drive (even a slot in one), do remember you can get external drives almost the size of laptop drives: https://www.google.dk/search?rlz=1C1GGRV_enDK751DK751&biw=1680&bih=957&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=small+external+optical+drive&oq=small+external+optical+drive

Such a drive can pretty much be hidden underneath a case.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

I considered it briefly, but unfortunately the price is a bit much for me. Also, with a 240mm radiator, it can only fit a single 3.5" drive.

I don't currently use my Prodigy anymore because when I re-did my office, I needed a desktop configuration and the Node 202 was perfect. The only downside is that I can't do AIO but my build isn't overly loud or anything.

That being said, whether you use a DVD drive or not, the Prodigy can house everything in a relatively well-used space.

Thanks for the advise. I feel like I heard someone say something about airflow somewhere, but it otherwise seems like an awesome highly-portable case
