Intel to focus WiGig for VR

NumLock21

In a surprising move, Intel has announced plans to altogether discontinue their 802.11ad products. The company intends to cease shipments of all of its current-generation WiGig devices by late 2017.

WiGig adapters were found in some laptops and they operete in the 60ghz range. It wasn't as good as 2.4ghz, because it cannot penetrate through walls. So it never caught on, therefore intel has decided to pull the plug on it. Now they are focusing wigig for vr, with its 60ghz range and up to 7gbps transfer rate, where it should be enough, for them vr devices that are in direct line of site of one another.

60GHz is quite an impresive range, especially when it comes to the transfer speeds (7gbps) and signal strength. When it comes to bandwidth, especially with a wireless connection, the 10 metre radius of the connection is certainly well capable in terms of the signal strength and bandwidth, especially for an AD wireless connection.
