This is regarding MICRO SD cards. (Because people seemed to gloss over this detail)

On the more technical side of things, the 400GB card can transfer files at up to 100MB/s, is classified as a SDXC UHS-I card, and is rated as an App Performance Class A1 device (i.e., it’ll run apps well).

Pretty low key announcement, but hey, if you really need all that space on your Switch, GoPro, or phone, maybe this is the card for you. That is if you don't mind the $250 price tag.

 

Still, microSD cards are pretty amazing storage devices.

Oh I see now, how interesting I guess, I'm really not into this storage thingy as I never cared about smartphones and my camera uses a normal SD card I barely knew the difference.

It's pretty neat, but my question is how do devices that rely on storage take advantage of this if some cap out at 256? It's kind of a bummer.

I'm honestly more interested in CFast 2.0 which uses SATA and ready for CFexpress cards to start being released.

CFast is compact flash but uses SATA protocol and can typically read and write around 520MB/s and offered at up to 512GB that I know of.

If those devices cap out then the user will be out of luck, however there are still plenty of devices that can support up to 2TB of flash storage.

Most of the time they're just listing the highest capacity card at that time. If a device supports SDXC cards then they'll go the full way to 2TB. Usually.

Didn't realize SDXC has such capabilities, but then again It's not really my scene. I just use SDXC for the higher speeds. It makes my D3300 feel like the buffer size increased by just a touch.

SD cards are magic to me, the data density seems just impossible in the context of modern SSD's and HDD's

 

i only realized recently that almost all SD media is actually really fucking quick, but almost every SD card reader in the world runs on a USB 2.0 bus ?? I used a 3.0 SD card reader for the first time recently and was kinda stunned.

So a 400GB flash card the size of your fingernail. Yet we still have to shell out obscene amounts of money for a 500GB 2.5" SSD's, let alone the 500GB nvme SSD's. The nand market is fracked up at the moment.

SD and MicroSD cards aren't as reliable as SSD/HDDs. It's a trade off, and obe that doesn't matter much to the devices that incorporate them.
