When are AMD prices expected to lower?

Are AMD's prices expected to lower within the year?

 

I'm expecting a good amount of cash and would like to buy a new GPU for my rig.

I'm trying to limit my choice to an AMD card as I have FreeSync monitor.

 

HOWEVER, current prices are waaaay beyond what I expect them to be. As an example, an SAPPHIRE RX570 Mini 4GB costs around 280$ while a ZOTAC GTX1060 Mini 6GB is around 250$.

 

Is there an expected price cut within the year?? or should I go with the 1060 (and ignore FreeSync).

 

TBH I'm willing to wait but if prices don't go down before the year ends I'll probably just go ahead with NVIDIA.

vRAM prices are expected to keep rising for a while due to more shortages. This may not mean a rise in GPU prices (if mining 100% dies), but higher prices will most likely come of it.

For Non Vega Cards:

In reality, prices will go down if the (or a specific cryptocurrency) Cryptocurrency market crashes, especially for used graphics cards on ebay.

If your screen is 1080p 60Hz then freesync or not doesnt matter. It's only beneficial when FPS is below refresh rate, but both cards are good enough to keep more than 60fps.

so as @Imbellis said, short answer is no for brand new cards I guess?

Well Vega is supposed to go down in price around October by people's estimate of when another supplier of hbm2 comes to market. The other AMD gpus are going to be priced high until people stop buying them at those prices and more come in stock.

There may be a drop after Vega 56 is launched but I doubt it. Most likely you're going to have to wait for ethereum to crash. When that is is anyone's guess.

I think Vega launched yesterday. and already they're having problems with demand v supply hahaha

Yeah the HBM2 ram chips are causing the problem. Hard to produce and AMD is practically the only ones using it at a large scale level. And they don't want to order too much, for fear of jacking up price for themselves.

Cant find any from a well-trusted source... But just think of how it works. When frame rate is lower than refresh rate, Freesync and G-sync both reduce refresh rate and keep it the same as frame rate to eliminate screen tearing. When frame rate is higher than refresh rate, they both cant do anything because they cant overclock your monitor. In this case, Vsync kicks in and caps frame rate. In fact, many with adaptive sync monitors cap their frame rates to just below the refresh rate with various ways to keep Gsync/freesync working and not have the input lag issue on Vsync.

Be careful when buying 27" 1080p screens. To some sensitive eyes the pixels are far enough between one another for the image to look grainy.

it's fine I'm not that sensitive. I don't even have 20:20 vision..

What I'm trying to say is to look at some 27" 1080p screens first before you buy. Everyone sees a bit different to each other.

ooh. I already HAVE the monitor. I bought it a few months ago and I'm currently using it as a monitor for my Mi Box. It was the cheapest decent 27" IPS monitor I could find. It's just a bonus that it has FreeSync. I tried watching movies up close, I can't distinguish the pixels. However, it might be different for when I'm playing.

very unlikely they'll drop unless you're cashing in on the super budget lineup...

to be honest amd doesn't even look attractive anymore even their latest vega56/64 lineup if u ask me. it didn't impress me that much and pales in comparison to nvidia's offerings which are older but longer...
