New Workstation - 16 Cores 256GB RAM

Thought you guys might like to see another workstation build on my part. I got a new machine a few weeks ago - it's pretty badass and definitely a lot faster than the last workstation I had (which you can see at the link below)

NEW SYSTEM

CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2667 V4 8 core Processors

GPU: Quadro K6000

Memory: 256GB DDR4

SSD: Intel P3700 1.6TB NVME SSD

Hard Drive: 2 x 10TB in RAID 1

Total Cost was round $14K I think

finally someone else realizes you can put your extra wires above the cd drive if you put the drive down one slot.

Yea definitely although it is funny, can't remember last time I used the CD drive for anything

haha don't worry that's what I have on my personal gaming PC.

Maybe for fun I'll install some benchmarks and a game and just see what it gives me for results.  It'd be fun to see how the Quadro performs.  Synthetic benchmarks will be pretty nice I imagine.

That would be cool! I think that's what I'll end up making my existing rig. Just a mass storage box, even if it's 'large'.  Why waste the stuff I have now you know?

Can you give me the address of the place where this thing is? It's just normal curiosity, I promise I don't wanna rob the place. ^_^

Hey if you want to bring about $15K in cash and accidentally drop it into my wallet while "robbing" the place I have no problem letting you know where it is :P

What's funny is that it's not enough.  I've run a single job with 512 cores and 2TB of RAM before.  Fun stuff but yea for a single workstation it's pretty nice. I'll probably end up adding a Tesla in here at some point as well.

Just for fun I ran Cinebench R15.  Not sure what other benchmarks to run (other than games).  If anyone has recommendations for free benchmarks to look at I'd be down to try them out.

Did a few more benchmarks. Ycruncher, CPUMark and DiskMark from Linus' usual artificial benchmarks that he uses in his videos.

yCruncher - 50M - Single Thread

I'll do a "Build Log" for our cluster in the next month or so and see if I can get some pictures of the rack and the systems as well in addition to some screenshots of some severe number crunching! All in all we have about 1000 cores on one cluster but I can't just snag all of them just to "let me do a benchmark for LTT" :P

That makes sense haha!

But yeah that'd be awesome crazy systems are right up our alley!

If I got my hands on that...

I'd literally run 250 VMs, 249 of win 10 Pro, 1 of server 2016 datacenter
