AM4 gets APUs (Not Vega ones)

I guess the real downside is that their top end is still capped at 512 shared units.  I was really hoping that the HUGE GPU's (Relatively speaking) built into the glorified APUs used on Xbox and PS4 would eventually trickle down into PC APUs, where even the default Xbox's is twice as many shader's as the top APU, but it really hasn't happened.

Yeah much like Intel's igpu this shit that's this slow in 2017 is basically for someone who wants a rock bottom media center PC just for audio and video not for games and that wants to avoid a Pentium 4600.

 

Not sure why you'd want that since at this time there's no inherit advantage to an old APU on AM4 A320 chipset other than, it exists. Pentiums also exists and currently fit in a far wider variety of itx boards which is far better imho.

Yeah, that would be good. I wonder how much it would eat into their sales if both intel and AMD had 2/4 decent cores and decent iGPUs in their lower end... and for higher end CPUs had a choice of very low end iGPU, just for basic display capabilities and troubleshooting or no iGPU. I mean as a choice, so they make 2 versions and you choose iGPU/no iGPU version.

These will be the very cheap entry for simple pc and usage. 

Though Raven Ridge (Zen+Vega APU) will be on whole new level.

Is there any news on when Ryzen is making its way into laptops? I'm in the market for a new laptop for school with maximum threads(virtual machine work) that doesn't have a 2kg 230W powerbrick like mine does.

Asus made a laptop with the desktop Ryzen.

Ryzen mobile is stated to be released Q3 or Q4. we have seen a leak of one of them so lets hope it is not too far away.

 

we are expecting the ryzen mobile to be 4c8t with Vega graphics (Vega part is confirmed at up to 11 CU past APU's was up to 8 CU)

It's been like this for a while unless you consider Iris iGPUs from Intel. You can indeed see in that chart that all the old APUs are up there as well.

Probably not. They're only better on efficiency and DDR4 support (to the extent that you get faster DDR4 than the DDR3 you can use in FM2+). So they should be better, but not much.

This.  With the exception of the painfully expensive Iris chips, AMD's APU's have been curbstomping Intel IGP since their origin.  Even when Llano came out it has no problems schooling a 2600k in gaming.

 

That said, APUs have narrow use cases.  They're 'nicely wounded' lower end chips really, unlike Intel chips which can be fairly lopsided, favoring CPU so much, but they're great in their niches.  I still have my A8-3870K system. :)

AMD APU emulation box's, thats my main APU usage scenario.

You can pick up these tiny-GPU powerhouses pretty cheap, and play so many titles if your going back in time on various platforms.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
