my psu fan is louder than my CPU fan which is louder than my GPU fan

 

my mouse moving is louder than my psu fan

 

 

i have non PWM CPU fan 

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB 

138 is a good number.

First of all, music production should never have the PC in the same room, nor anything that produces noise for that matter. Second is why would an audiophile want silence, there is already music playing? 

 

My point is fans are already sooo quiet that in normal use and with most cases you cant hear the fan until you eliminate all noise and slap your ear to the side of the case. Complete silence is cool but I wouldnt spend extra for fans that shut off when you cant hear them when they are on.

In theory, if it was a decent 240 or 360 rad, would it not have enough passive heat radiance to idle much longer than that? Assuming it doesn't have an insane TDP that is. Also assuming there are other case fans, or GPU fan stirring air flow, or it's not a CPU + GPU loop.

Nothing new, I have been doing this since 2001. Noctua fans (and I sure others too as well) comes with fan resistors. User those with a fan controller based on temp (like the ones from the motherboard, assuming that they have it), and you are done. 0db fan.

 

The big question is when it spins up, what does it sound like? If the motor is crap or the blades aren't good, it will make noise (motor and/or air passing through)

It's a pwm fan. Voltage doesn't change. It's got some kind of microcontroller on it that reads the pwm signal and manipulates it, not just a resistor.

yes, but the end result was motor damage over time, as it gave too little current for the motor to spin, but enough to start a buildup of heat. You wouldnt know unless you touched the fan hub, but over time this degrades the insulation that the motor wires are coated with, and will result in the motor coils shorting.

It is one of the common faults of larger industrial motors, phase missing/voltage droop causes heat buildup.

Actually, depending on the materials used, and or design of the start system, start stop will have little to say. Electrical engines are VERY efficient, but start stop can wear on the power supply, aka mobo. So you might end up wearing out the mobo connectors LONG before the motor, in some cases. Depends on the mobo.

depends. The maglev bearings used by corsair shouldnt, they would actually be hurt more by heat, aka max load over time. But everyone else using lubricant + ball bearings system will not like it.
