Is there any reason to SLI 1080Tis now?

Except for the e-peen factor is there any reason in the current environment to SLI 1080Tis?

 

I have been screwing around with it and so far in any game I have tried results have ranged from extremely minor improvements in Synthetic Benchmarks to actual negative results in some games.   

 

Before I start buying water blocks I thought I would ask around.  Is there any real world benefit to this?   If not I think I am going to use the second card in my other machine and say screw it.

SLI doesn't help that (Better to leave it off with two cards), and ASIC hardware is much better for that also (I think you mean general Crypto mining of Zcash, Eth, ect )

 

Bragging rights, 144 hz 4K or 8K would really be it.

Extreme VR perhaps, as I think you can have a GPU dedicated to each eye, however I don't know how well that is implemented yet.

Edit: You might have better performance with SLI disabled in this scenario, wouldn't know myself but its a possibility.

no, youd want to not run SLI and just designate the second card to mine in the background while you use the first card to display stuff and game

GTX 1080ti SLI is the cheapest gpu(s) required score acceptable fps in 3dmark vrmark blue room.

You make the reason, if you feel a single 1080ti is not enough to give you the most out of your display then you get another one, or wait and buy a Volta GTX 2080 / TITAN XV since I personally don't like SLI solutions.

The only reason for running two GTX 1080 Ti-cards in SLI is if you don't care about getting any value for your money. Like SLI always have, you'll sometimes get a decent boost, and at other times get barely anything in return depending on the game or software you're running. Driver support for SLI-setups are also generally much less stable and optimized. 

 

I can see a reason for running two of em', but there currently doesn't exist a good reason as far as I know unless you've got some kind of specialized workload. A GTX 1080Ti SLI-setup is an abysmal value even for an extremely high-end setup (which generally aren't value-oriented anyways).

Of course, for someone that wants more than what a singe 1080TI can offer, there isn't much of an option but to SLI.
