While I agree that this is karma, I think it's still bad. 

I hope Apple wins because Qualcomm has really been on the war patch recently and needs to be taken down a notch. All these patent wars are in the end hurting us as consumers and I would like to see it stop. 

I'd like to see the entire patent system get reformed to be honest. It's insane that patents gets granted left and right, and they last for as long as they so.

Yes, Qualcomm is significantly more important than Apple. They make so much more than phone SoCs. If Apple went under, there would be less competition (which IS bad!) If Qualcomm went away.. Well, I don't know what would happen!

Chances are, IP gets gobbled up by AMD, Samsung, and Apple. Maybe Intel. Then we either get Patent Wars: Apple Strikes Back, or everyone is forced to be friendly to each other in order to be able to license former and necessary Qualcomm IP.

This is old news and nothing is going to happen. If you didn't like the new S8 being $1000+ then man wait for $2000+ with no competition. As much as you might hate apple they are the major players in the economy and losing them would screw everyone. Like I said never going to happen though

I just told you that they make way more than SoCs. It would still practically kill the budget smartphone market, unless companies like MediaTek start making better SoCs.

There are more phone manufacturers than Apple and Samsung. The majority of the market is not Apple or Samsung combined.

it's not about destroying apple's business. IF they are infringing on another companies patents or using their tech, then they should be paying their dues to them. Regardless of how big or important a company is.

Yeah I know. But the flagships people want are from a small few. The problem I have is there are too many cheap androids that are one and done. Never get OS updates or security updates.

Sure if they infringed a patent pay up. But to eliminate sales would be devastating to everyone

Unfortunately even Android flagships aren't much better in that regard -- two years of OS support is pretty pitiful.

Those phones are the sole reason Android dominates the market. 

 

Sure Google likes to boast about how many units run Android, but they never say which version because its shameful how small the numbers are for even the latest versions from a few years ago.
