Why overclock if you don't have to?

I have a question for you guys with the complete top of the line tech. I'm talking 1080 tis and x99 CPUS. Why overclock? I plan to overclock my i7 7700k and 1070 when it gets to where I can't run any game on want at max at 1440p to put off having to upgrade for a few years. But you guys don't have to worry about that for a long time so why overclock now and take the risk? It is a sincere question because I want to know if I am missing out on not overclocking.

because top of the line can't actually run all games at max graphics even at 1080p and by overclocking you can get sometimes get a stable 60 fps on new games its pretty much like asking why people with 1080s bought 1080 tis

I mean I can play WItcher 3 maxed out at 60fps with my 1070. ME:A Maxed at 60fps (my monitor is the only reason why I can't get above 60) So with the 1080tis  you should be bending over those games and doing bad things to them. I guess a better question is, why overclock at the front end as opposed to the tail end?

witcher 3 isn't a very intensive game ark survival evolved and a lot of vr games crush the 1080 and 7700k still cant get close to max in ark with a stable 60 at 1080 great looking game at least

Helps boost your low fps so it gives you a smoother experience when frames are important. Some people arent playing at 60 hertz so you want to squeeze as much as possible out of the system

I think ARK is just poorly optimized. So Idk if anything can run that game stable.

arks optimization is fine its just because it actually looks good most of the time when other games "optimize" they just down rez the game or add tons of pop in

The I7 7700k and I got the Gigabyte z270x Ultra Gaming Mobo. Think is my mobo temps have reached 80 in a game before stable. Hasn't since, but it's a cocnern for me

It's free performance. Why wouldn't your OC? I mean if I hadn't OCed my 980ti it would have never out performed 1080FEs

I overclock because it was a good way to get everything I could out of my 970 and 6600k. my 970 is at 18% faster than reference and my i5 is at 30%.

I haven't overclocked since about 2003/2004.  I don't even buy hardware that can anymore.  My current CPU (3550) still does everything I need it too for now, and if I move to games that are more demanding (likely next year) I'll probably upgrade to whatever comes after the current releases, so I doubt I'll have to overclock then to get satisfactory results.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

I'll probably OC at the end of my PC cycle, just to save a few $ on upgrading. It's cheaper to buy a Watercooler than it is to buy a new rig.

1080Ti cannot play all games at max settings at 1440p 144hz yet, so that's why we still need to overclock.

Overclocking is free performance, especially with GPUs and RAM. With CPUs you can argue that you need a better cooler, which will cost more, but still, it's worth the cost IMO :D

I didn't have the money for a good Liquid Cooling system. So I bought a Noctua for 60$ I am planning on going watercooling. But I want to get a new 1440p monitor first, then a m.2 boot drive then a ssd. My rig is bare basic aside from the CPU GPU and Ram

... ps4 pro is crap i'm saying my 7700k and a 1080 can't run it and you're bringing up a ps4 pro. ark doesn't run well on a ps4 pro because a ps4 pro is about a 660ti or a 7870. and last of us isn't in real 4k and also not a consistent  60 fps so i dont get why your bringing up those games

I want the windows only on the m.2 and I want a SSD for my games with my HDD for mass storage.
