Pay with $100 at Microcenter?

Littlelaner
Go to solution Solved by Littlelaner,

Called in and the Microcenter I am going to (Minneapolis location) does accept them.

Hey guys,

I am wondering if Microcenter accepts $100 bills? Long story as to why I want to pay that way, but it would be awesome if someone could let me know.

Thanks in advance!

I don't see why they wouldn't. Unless you're buying a $2 USB drive with it.

No they should accept them in the US. I remember in Europe u couldnt give the cashier bills more than 100 euros in most stores because of possible replication.

Yea, I think they should without any problems.  Up here where I live in Humboldt County, Northern California all the stores will take a 100 dollar bill but I think that's mostly because that most people that live out in the boonies up here deal with nothing less considering the major agricultural crop up here is hooch.

It's allowed, but rude AF if the purchase can't be justified with a large bill.

Actually believe it or not the $20 bill is most often counterfeited. Its because it is a smaller bill that still has some value and flies under the radar for most cashiers. I used to work at mcdonalds and we actually did have some counterfeit $20s come on.

That's fine, do what you need to do to eliminate the problems.

But the notion that you already guilty by paying it with cash (and biggest value), instead cashless is absurd.

The only places that should be allowed to not take a $100 bill should be small item stores where triple digits are rarely seen. There's no reason for Wal-Mart to not have change for a $100.

If you think this is a good idea, it's not.

it will even make small business future even worse.

As owner of small business, I'd rather run across street shop to exchange small bills rather than letting my potential customer go to another shop just because " I can't provide change for $100 bill or not allowed to pay with $100 bill"

If a small store wants to place a "cannot make change" or "cannot accept" sign for $100 bills, they should be allowed to at their discretion.

Sure, but that still doesn't make sense from business perspective, you are asking business owner to refuse money.

if anything, there's a lot of small store that put sign " Cash only" instead paying with credit card/debit card.

Some places may not accept large bills ($50 and $100 bills) due to the much higher risk of counterfeit currency, and that's up to each retailer to decide (I do not believe the US has a law forcing retailers to accept every bill denomination).

You should call ahead to the specific Microcenter store you're intending on purchasing things at and ask the Manager to confirm that $100 bills will pose no problem - if they say it's no issue, make sure to note the date and time of the call, and the name of the manager (in case the cashier argues differently, for example).

With that in mind, why don't you just go to your bank, speak to a teller, and get them to swap out $20's or something? There's no fee for that sort of thing.

Never forget the times when the stores didn't have smaller money to exchange your larger bills, so you always bought a pack of bubble gums and acted like it was your original intention. Oh wait I still do that.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Well you can either take the chance that they'll accept it, or just take 5 minutes to call ahead and know for 100% certainty.

As for 35 $20's, the bank will give you an envelope (no charge!) and just stick it in your pocket or backpack, etc.

Never the less, up to you what you'd like to do.
