I don't really understand why people are so negative regarding Windows 8. All the negative flaws could be addressed so easy by Classic Shell.

In my opinion the only negative points were:

  • Metro UI search that didn't combine applications with settings
  • The need to open Metro UI which covered all your open desktop programs at the time.

Positives:

  • Fast boot time/shutdown
  • Better task manager
  • File copy interface is way better
  • Scheduled disk defragment which runs TRIM commands on SSDs

While initial version was awkward it's biggest flaws were addressed in 8.1. It could be fixed from day one by Classic Shell.

In addition Windows 8 enables such interesting devices like those laptop/tablet hybrids with flip screens etc.

My two cents are - If you really don't like Windows 8 try it with Classic Shell (free btw) or any other alternative.

Show love because it's a terrible thing to hate

Well the only thing that WIn8.1 did is mess up all drivers and made me reformat every PC / Laptop so it'd run decently. So ya... let's see -.-

That doesn't look like the start menu.  That looks exactly how it is now if you right click on the bottom left corner of the desktop.

the article says that, that is what it looks like currently in windows 8 and that they will bring back the traditional menu from windows 7

Well, good for the complainers

Personally I find Modern UI faster to use than the old start menu

It has errors, but is still faster to use when you get used to it, now if I touch a Windows 7 PC I am irritated that the menu is so small and can fit so little :P

As long as people can choose between the "old" start menu and the Modern UI this is a good change

Options is always good

So, they're binding the start menu to the quick list thing? This is already in Windows 8.1, its Windows key + X
