How much should I splurge on a PSU?

JerrBear

I've always been a builder which splurges a little extra on a more efficient (and therefore expensive) PSU.

I think I took it too far here, I need some advice on a good PSU.

The cooler master V series is excellent. However it only comes with 5 year warranty (but that's not an issue since you will probably upgrade your rig after 5 years)

Desktop specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB Gigabyte B550M DS3H mATX

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

A 550W EVGA G2 would do well, Should be cheaper too.

Also, i would switch out the Kingston V300 SSD for... Pretty much anything else. They did a bait and switch with the NAND they use, so they're pretty slow compared to most drives.

But...  Wouldn't it be smart to just keep the PSU for the next PC?

I mean, the 750W V series is a great PSU but the 550W G2 would be fine and is cheaper.

Yup as long as the PSU is still in good condition

I liked my Rosewill Quark 550W enough that I bought the 650W version for my new machine.  Full modular, never hear the fan, 80+ platinum efficiency, teardown reviews say it's pretty good, and it helped stabilize my OC's over the cheap cougar 560W I had before.

I think I spent $50 on the 550W and $60 on the 650W.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.
