i5 4570 vs Ryzen 1700

Hello!

I'm thinking of making an upgrade to my cpu. It will be mainly for gaming.

I currently have a i5 4570 and I was thinking in buying a Ryzen 1700.

I've seen diferent opinions on this, some say that the ryzen is better, other say that it wont be a noticeable diference.

What is your opinion on this? Is it worth it? Should I leave the Ryzen and buy another cpu instead? (similiar prices only)

depends on the task, 4670 a 4c/4t vs a 8c/16t 5960x/6900k is a huge jump they are not in the same league.

well the highest cpu you could really put on that board is a 4790k.(guessing you have a z97 motherboard) upgrading to ryzen would be expensive as you would need to pay for a new motherboard and ram. 

what GPU do you have and do you use this pc for anything other then gaming and web browsing

Get a Ryzen 1600.

 

I have an i5-4590, and a Ryzen 1600, take this from me.

 

I also have a GTX 1060 (3gb) Zotac.

Here are my thoughts:

The Ryzen processor delivers much better frames than the i5-4590 (better than yours) and it is much much much smoother, not just faster. Everything loads quicker, you can run more programs before running into a CPU bottleneck, and it never stops delivering, and you can put together a Ryzen upgrade with that CPU for under 400$

 

220$ for CPU

80$ for motherboard

60$ for ram

I know some games are CPU intensive and that is why I want to upgrade it

Hardly, I just showed you can get a Ryzen CPU for the same price as an i7-4790k.

Then the Ryzen processor will be a very very good upgrade, I highly recommend it, check my previous post on pricings.

If you're only gaming Ryzen's not worth it since you could get a 4790k instead and get at least as good gaming performance without having to get a new mobo or ram.

It's 220 - 250 Euros on Ebay.

 

250 Euro CPU

100 Euro for a decent VRM setup on a B350 board (MSI B350 Tomahawk / Tomahawk Arctic variant

50 - 100 Euros for 8, or 16 gigs of DDR4-2400 (Ram speeds really don't make much of a difference on Ryzen with a GTX 1070, and less so with a 1060.)

Getting a new motherboad and rams is not the problem since im already counting on doing it.

I just want to know if the ryzen is worth it or if i should get a similar priced i7 or something else.

No, I have a 4790k, and an i5-4590, and a Ryzen 1600, trust me, the 4790k could not hold a candle to the Ryzen in a game like Arma, DayZ, or any other CPU bound game.

 

Also, Ryzen gets much higher minimums, and is smoother.

Get Ryzen, trust me with this, I basically have your i5 in performance, and a Ryzen 1600.

Source for higher mins? All the tests I've seen only show it being i5s in mins, not i7s.

Not in performance, It's 3x as many threads, and 33% more cores, Ryzen has higher IPC (single core performance / ghz) than 4th gen intel.

 

This is my word, I do not stutter when using Ryzen, the i7 occasionally stutters (i7-4790k), and the i5-4590 stutters a lot in modern titles.


As you can see here, Ryzen is up to twice as smooth as Intel in games, albeit reaching slightly lower frames, it is much better than them because of the added cores.

It's 4 frames higher on average. Wow.

I have seen the i7-7700K get better overall frames all the time, but I have never seen one perform similarly in frametimes on a game that utilizes Ryzen completely, or close to, like Battlefield 1, Arma 2/3, DayZ, and other games coming out soon will utilize Ryzens threads more, such as Battlefront 2.

 

Grand Theft Auto is about the only game Ryzen doesn't beat intel in on frametimes, but it isn't using all of it's threads properly, so that remains to be seen.

@paulo93Look at it this way, you can pay 220$ USD for a R5 1600, and get very similar max and average frames to the i7-7700k (330$ USD), but Ryzen will also be smoother, and costs less, so it's up to you from there.

In watch dogs 2 the 4790k is winning by 10 fps in mins and averages. Did I mention the 4790k has close to double the .1% lows of Ryzen in metro last light?

From pretty much every other source I've seen Ryzen loses to the 7700k in BF1, which makes these results fishy.

 

Also, that's ONE GAME, I also checked and the computerbase DX12 results paint a very different story with Ryzen behind Intel...
