Those Mass Effect System Recommendations Were For 30fps

Makes perfectly sence if you consider the marketing want's to keep the requirements as low as possible to sell more games.

It runns with bearly 30 FPS on consoles? Ok then give me the requirements for 30 FPS on PC.

> Only 30 FPS on high end PC hardware

Choose one.

What's there to choose? "As low as possible" might as well be pretty "high end". Which makes sense for them going for the 30fps, since even that requires fairly high specs and if they went for 60 they would scare people off. Still sucks, though.

What's stupid is they defaulted to recommending specs for 30fps, if all of this is true. It does not make sense for them to make recommendations on this when literally every other game will make recommendations for 60fps.

They're not going to "scare people off" by showing what it takes to run the game maxed out at 60fps at 1080p. We'd be having the same conversations about how bad the game performs.

Again, if this is all true.

How about; let's wait and see how it runs at release? lol

I'm not too worried. If I have to turn settings down a little to achieve 60fps min. so be it. I'll be playing this for the story and gameplay, not eye candy. The ME series has never been among the more "pretty" games out there in the past.

Nice to see you need an RX 480 to run this game at basically medium-high at 30fps. Sounds like someone never bothered to optimize the game.

Why don't the devs take a page out of a game like Doom's book?

Well yeah, but people having what it takes to run it at 30 (based on the requirements alone) wouldn't even think of going anywhere near it. Of course they are taking the piss on people that care about a better experience, but there's also a massive mainstream crowd that treats PC games like console games, meaning if "it works" or is "good enough" they won't complain.

Ya see, to do that, you need to have talent and actually care. Bioware is too busy virtue-signaling to care.

It'll likely get a tad better after release, but I'm not expecting this game to run very well based on Bioware's work with Dragon Age 3.

There could also be some settings that don't make a gigantic difference in visual quality but take up a ton of resources that could be disabled to improve performance significantly. Not discounting any possibility to have the game look "its best" and still maintain a playable frame rate, but again, Bioware...

Hopefully my 1080 can muster around 60fps in 1440p ultra.....

I wasn't planning on buying at launch anyways. Dear god is my game backlog large, better to wait for a sale. It will hopefully have been patched a bit by then.

30FPS is playable whether you want to admit it or not.

I feel like I'm constantly in the minority when I say I'd rather have a stable 30FPS than an unstable 45-67FPS. The drops in framerate are far more noticeable than the less-smooth motion.

It's playable the same as walking with flipflops is manageable.

Even though that's a low blow i'm still excited for the game.

Inquisition runs pretty well on my pc and even though i never looked at the framerate it was good enough.

Hoping for more of the same. Although i might have to fiddle with the settings a bit more this time.

Its Mass Effect. As long as the writing is good and the gameplay is fun i'm in.

Isn't BF1 using the same engine?

I get there about 80FPS on High preset at 1440p with GTX 1060 6GB, so I was really expecting at least 60FPS on High preset with some extra eye candy.

Using the same engine doesn't directly translate to it performing as well.

I know, I wasn't expecting it to perform as well but at least similarly in the same conditions. RPG games have bigger maps, more AI walking around, etc.... so all things considered I was expecting better results than 30FPS.

What makes it even worse is that not only is this for the 1080p (the recommended setup), they also recommended a spec for 720p. Both system recommendations are for 30fps, not 60.

I haven't played a game this demanding before. Especially since I play with 60FPS on both GTA V and Need For Speed

I hope that the game will be more efficient with future updates.

You say that like it's something you can easily do.

Unless people want to learn to write assembly and then take the time to try and develop a full triple-A title. Even then it might not necessarily make it faster. I don't see that happening ever again due to time and money.

I think it's important though to just take this requirement at face value. As far as I care, most specifications game publishers put out are "we just wanted to pull something out of ass."

I mean think about it. EA said the minimum requirement for Battlefield 1 was either a Core i5-6600K or an AMD FX-6350. Those two processors are no where near the same performance level.

If the game is just hard to run at max detail, fine. I can probably cope with a poorly optimized release depending on how bad it is.

What worries me is that I don't see any good reason for them to give their recommended system specs with a 30 FPS target unless it's actually capped at 30 FPS… and I've passed on far better games than this is likely to be over a 30 FPS cap.

I believe it's been confirmed that the framerate is uncapped. (Ultrawide support too, hooray!)
