Sager NP8157

Hello everyone I am currently in the process of getting a new laptop. I have decided on the Sager NP8157 but I can not decided which display would be best.

Here are the options that I am stuck between:

15.6" Full HD, 120Hz 5ms Matte Display with G-SYNC Technology (1920 x 1080)

15.6" 4K QFHD, 60Hz 5ms Matte Display with G-SYNC Technology (3840 x 2160)

I will be doing a lot of school work and gaming on this system along with the occasional movie when traveling or when I'm just bored. Initially I thought the 4k option was the way to go but I'm not too sure if it would be worth it over the smoothness of 120Hz. What are your thoughts?

Is either of the IPS? :P

IPS>refresh rate>resolution>adaptive sync IMO at least...

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

You're going to get god awful battery life with this thing.  Also it's a bit thick to travel with IMO.

Are you dead set on this laptop, or can you take other suggestions?

I am open to suggestions. Although it is very rare that I am not around an outlet so the battery life will not really effect me.

My suggestions

-ROG GL502VS(the one with the 1070).  It's a bit thinner and not as ugly IMO

-Alienware 15 R3- Good battery life, optional 1070, and is thinner.  You can also get the AGA for better graphical performance down the line.

The asus has horrible cooling, and the Alienware seems a bit biased on your part. Along with the quality control issues that they've had as of late. :/

Asus laptops have been good from my experience.

My Alienware hasn't had any thermal issues(not serious enough for Dell to fix at least..)but I think they fixed the thermal issues.

First one. Horseshit wrapped in catshi.

Second one. Fine. I prefer the longer battery life. I have one. Fine if you get it at the RIGHT price. And you're willing to fix it. Do not for the love of god get this anywhere near MSRP. I got mine so heavily discounted it was desktop pricing levels.

I made that mistake.  I can get the same config for close to 1500 but I paid over $2000 because I got it the day it dropped

I would like to stay as close to $2000 USD as I can (cheaper is always better though). I'll be buying in the US most likely from an online retailer because I doubt I'll be able to find anything within 50 miles of me that sells anything like it.

Get it from LPC, XoticPC or HIDEvolution for a proper vbios from Prema. I'd always get the 7820HK for OC. Never get NVME. Useless unless you're a video editor or moving massive files ALOT. Stick with the 850 evo. Never get Killer Wireless, stick with the intel 8625, get faster ram cause it benefits the architecture, with Prema bios you can get CL16 3k ram. Don't get the 2667, the timings are terrible. Otherwise, get the Kingston CL14 2400. All the tips for this laptop. Screen is honestly up to you. The 120hz TN panel is decent, whereas the 4k one is a Samsung PLS. Scaling it down to 1080p works well but it is a pentile screen.
