Google engineers issue 'fuck you' to NSA over surveillance scandal

Brandon Downey, a security engineer with Google switched against the NSA when he found out that they tapped into Google's Network.

 

This is what he said:

Fuck these guys.

I've spent the last ten years of my life trying to keep Google's users safe and secure from the many diverse threats Google faces… But after spending all that time helping in my tiny way to protect Google -- one of the greatest things to arise from the internet -- seeing this, well, it's just a little like coming home from War with Sauron, destroying the One Ring, only to discover the NSA is on the front porch of the Shire chopping down the Party Tree and outsourcing all the hobbit farmers with half-orcs and whips.

I now join him in issuing a giant Fuck You to the people who made these slides. I am not American, I am a Brit, but it's no different - GCHQ turns out to be even worse than the NSA.

really interesting to see how offended they are, actually very encouraging to me as a user of Google systems that their staff are so horrified and offended by this that not only do they think this, that they comment on it between them selves but that staff have taken to speaking publicly is a huge thing and should be taken as such

This is great PR for them. It is clearly working as well, just look at the replies to this thread.

 

I thought it was common knowledge that Google uses your personal information for profit (even though you agreed to it when you ticked their ToS box), yet people still pretend like they are doign something good and amazing? I dont get it.
