The ASUS WS line lost all credibility last generation when they downgraded it to 3 year warranty from 5.

 

That's the topmost important spec for a product aimed at prosumers.

 

Unless they go back to 5 years then get Sabertooth instead, cheaper but same shit. Or better yet, something from a different company.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

But the PLX chips vastly jack up the price for something most people using a quad-core workstation would never ever have. Most entry level workstations have 2 GPUs max, and that's because an entry-level CPU really can't handle more. It's just a poor combination. And for anyone doing content creation or big data, yeah 10G NICs are a necessity today for moving the data back and forth from your NAS/SAN at an acceptable speed.

Ws never had a 5 year warranty. Only their tuf has it.

Not true, but that era is LOOONG passed... Pre 1999 5-year warranty for WS boards was standard.

It's a beautiful board and I'd love to own one despite knowing full well I wouldn't utilize its fullest potential. Oh, and I would have to be willing to spend at least $500 for a motherboard.

SLI as gamers know it, on Pascal, yes. Older cards can still do 4 way, but the GPUs can also be used for GPU accelerated tasks. Seeing as 'WS' stands for Work Station, it's likely that the support for 4 Gfx cards has to do with GPGPU, not necessarily for gaming.

On a side note do you know of a good "low cost" 10Gbe switch that uses RJ45 for the 10 Gb. I only need like 2-4 ports of 10 Gb and the rest can be 1Gb.
