Heard about the GL502 "faking" temperature values, is that true?

Further comments on the P650hp6-g after a bit more use:

  1. Its trackpad is actually really nice, and this comes from someone who used Mac trackpads. Very responsive to gestures (now that I finally figured them out)
  2. Battery life improved significantly after I calibrated the battery, it seems like I'm getting around 3-4 hours with battery saving and MShybrid, which is nice.

Maybe I will keep it, or not? God darn it I'm so bad in decision making.

The main issue is we don't know that much about the new machine. Wait a month or two to get some people to test it.

To be fair HTWingNut did like it which is good.  But yeah we don't know how it'll fair in larger numbers.

Hahaha even their review was terrible.  @D2ultima @Pendragon

They got it out of box with cooling issues, and still had awful temps afterwards (what I've been saying).  Build quality isn't great and neither are the screen options.

Compare it to a Clevo P650HS which LTT will probably never do and it's literally completely inferior.  Better screens, better build, higher performance, thinner, double the storage and ram slots, and a much longer battery life.  There is a reason it is not in the guide, and won't be any time soon.

^ they did. Just not a Clevo. One of the worse Clevo vendors LOL.

and LOL. GL502VS is in the trash tier. Now plz take away GSync from the GL502VM and it'll be decent again with that 7 hour battery life.

This like doesn't even count I've seen it.

Old hardware, terrible screen, they say it's crazy expensive just cause Venom charges a ton.  I don't even know who this is for.  Because if you already knew it was a P650 you probably don't need this video.

Heard the newer G-Sync display also had slightly inferior colours as well. Why doesn't Asus provide a hybrid optimus switch option somewhere? They are incredibly useful when you don't need G Sync.

I told Linus before he should specify when these rebrands are a Clevo and he said "everyone already knows that" and made a comparison to a brand of power supplies that are just rebranded from some other company which he also claimed everyone knows (which I didn't). He probably won't touch anything but Clevo high end, and from Sager (with overheating issues).

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Here is the thread in question:

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/316320-the-hell-is-the-difference-between-the-venom-blackbook-15-and-the-clevo-p650se/

This is the point where I said I got Linus to start talking about the turbo clocks etc more in depth for the notebooks.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

Honestly his responses weren't terrible.  I'd just like @LinusTech (only tag I promise) to cover a fairly priced P650HS.  From HIDEvolution preferably but LPC-Digital or even Sager themselves would be fine (The P650s have less bios limitations than their desktop cpu brethren, I'd love to see a redo of that Sager NP9873 with an HIDEvolution or ObsidianPC version that would thrash anything he's ever reviewed).

But point is, I'd love to see the P650HS compared to the GL502VS.  It's thinner, better built, better cooled, has a 120Hz display with a good response time (The Asus GL502 120Hz displays is 25ms which is awful at 120Hz) and it has double the ram and storage slots.  Plus it's more subtle if that's your thing.  I just think it deserves a mention because for the price not much beats it, maybe a Microcenter in store GT62VR for 1500 with a 1070.  Keyboard is also one of Clevo's best.  (I'll send you one of mine Linus :P before I sell in a few weeks)

First time poster here. I've been lurking this thread for quite a while.

I was confused between the Asus GL502VS, and the Alienware 15 R3.

(I don't have the option of MSI laptops, or any of the Clevo's as I reside in India and warranty could be a big issue)

Is my decision of buying the Alienware valid?

Also how likely is it that I'll have to undervolt and repaste? (Not that I mind doing it, I just haven't before)

Horrible.

The GL502VS is not available.

And the Alienware is, but at an exorbitant price.

I think the i7 6700hq with 1060 is for Rs 1,54,000 which is around 2300 usd.

But that doesnt matter, I'm buying it from the US, and a relative is going to bring it to India.

Turns out I sorta managed to figure out why my fans are a bit noisy, CPU gets pretty hot quickly. Noticed it when I tried a more intensive game to play, CPU gets to 94 while the GPU maxes out at 80, I think I will have to reapply the cooler, probably will fix the temps.

If you don't mind doing it the Alienware is literally way better.  Basically wins in every category except weight.  Probably also more expensive.

I think I'll go for Alienware, best buy has it for 1750 USD which is pretty okay.

Thanks for the help!

just got an alienware 15, display isnt as bad as linus claims though but i got one without gsync for the battery life and with 99whr battery. The alienware software is crap as it doesnt apply the colours i set or work properly. However i am just going to install windows from fresh on some m.2 SSDs, apparently its cheaper to just buy m.2 SSDs and more ram yourself than to configure your laptop with it when buying. I have an older alienware 13 with kepler and i prefer the larger 15 inch for the size though. audio wise i'd prefer if it has 3 slots for 5.1 audio as the older alienware did.

In the past i used to bring a 15 inch thinkpad with me around that had a 9cell battery + dvd slot battery, it is heavier but worth it.
