I think I'll go for Alienware, best buy has it for 1750 USD which is pretty okay.

Thanks for the help!

With which gpu and cpu?

I forgot to say, a 6th gen i7 will need a lot of work possibly, and a 1060 is bad value for that much.

Heard the newer G-Sync display also had slightly inferior colours as well. Why doesn't Asus provide a hybrid optimus switch option somewhere? They are incredibly useful when you don't need G Sync.

Issues with Optimus seem to outweight the benefits. As far as I know, they have to constantly patch it just to keep the dedicated graphics working with new games and stuff.

+ can't have VR with optimus

Well you can always switch back to G sync for gaming, at least with clevos.

I am confused between 4 laptops which are kinda close in price and almost have same specs Sager np8950- 1500$ gtx 1060 16gb ram 4.19lbs 0.73 inch slim 55wh battery

asus rog gl502vs- 1700$ 120hz ips g sync display gtx 1070 16gb ram 62wh battery 4.9lbs 0.92inch

msi gs63vr- 1800$ ips display gtx 1060 65wh battery 4lbs 0.69 inch

gigabyte aero 15 - 1900$ gtx 1060 ips display 95wh battery 0.87 inch 4.6lb very slim bezel

I want to know differences in terms of durability, heat emission, noise emission and display quality. I will be using this laptop for atleast 4-5 years so i want good durability. I will be cleaning my laptop every 6 months and wont be using it on lap too much and if i use i will be using a cooling pad Any opinions will be great thank you

Honestly sounds like you should look at alienware.  Those options are worse displays and build by no small margin.

I'm going to be hands on with the Clevo P950HP6 pretty soon if people are interested in it, hopefully next week or early the week after.

Keep any eye on felxi access, mine keeps turning on the GPU for some reason when I'm on hybrid wasting battery life and causing the noise. Never thought the issue could be narrowed down to a single service, at least in MSHybrid mode.

And are you going for the 3K display or the 1080p one? Personally regretting the 1080p display since I'm a pixel peep, but it does bring better battery life.

I'm not sure what you mean by felxi access?  This one will be 1080p.  Although, where is a 3K option?  Haven't seen that in the U.S.

To be frank I don't know what it does as well, its in the control centre and keeps turning itself on and for some reason starts using the discrete GPU in hybrid mode.

The 3K option is on PCSpecialist website, 2880*1620 non G sync display.

Yeah that 3K panel isnt really in the U.S.  HIDEvolution I see offers 120hz and pentile 4k models.

Nope :P

To be real though I don't really love Linus's laptop reviews all that much.  This one was fine, but they are often framed from a weird perspective (like vs the AW 13) or aren't laptops most people even care about.

I think it makes way more sense to frame it vs actual competition from Aorus, Clevo, Asus, MSI, and Acer.

Dell Inspiron 7567 - Another good budget option.  Packs a 1050 (or 1050 Ti), a quad core i5/i7, and a 256GB ssd makes this a great value laptop for gaming on a budget!  It's build quality is acceptable, but worse than many of the more expensive options out there.  TN panel is poor though...

Dell Inspiron 7567 now also has IPS panel

Not really sure if the quality would be same as TN panel though

Hey everyone I am currently looking for a gaming laptop for University (desktop is not an option since I'll be traveling) budget is not my main concern as I have saved up for this but I am thinking around 1500- 2000CAD.  Portability, weight, and looks are important to me as I will be carrying this around.  I think around 4 - 4.5lbs. As for gaming, I would like to play AAA titles, so a 1060 or 1050Ti. Currently, I am looking at the MSI 15.6" GS63VR Stealth Pro-034 for 2000 on Newegg (https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154296) What do you guys think about this. Any other better options?

Also, I don't mind used/refurbished items if you know any good deals

Thanks!

Perhaps hold off.  The new Max Q gpus may make better built thinner gaming laptops for university.  The GS63VR is not a bad option, but the build quality is not impressive.

What are the new Max Q gpus and when will they be out for consumers?

MAX Q are more expensive versions of the normal gpus that perform a bit worse but fit in crazy thin chassis machines.

It's coming soon and is expensive.  The GS63VR with a 1070 is like 2400 dollars USD.

So I found this in my subscription box:

Not so sure about it, seems pretty cheap for a 1060 but the screen looks meh.

What about the Gigabyte areo 15, I am willing to spend the money since I will use it for the next 5 years, why should I choose this one over the other laptops on your portability list

Choose what over the other stuff on my list?  The Aero or the GS63VR?

The Aero is pretty good.

If you meant Max Q only get them if you need super thin.

What I mean is how is the Gigabyte aero 15 (better?) than the new razer blade, Gigabyte P35X V6, Aorus X5, Aorus X7, EVGA SC17

Mainly compared to the new razer blade and the P35X V6. Is the main selling point for the aero 15 the display?
