Is it worth it to buy a HDD in 2017?

Hello, I am wondering if you think it is worth it to buy a HDD in 2017. With the compact size, lightness, reliability, and speed of an SSD I feel that it is well worth having less storage space per dollar than a HDD. Is the only use case for a HDD if you don't have the money for the SSD storage? I am slightly curious because I need more storage and I'm wondering if I should even consider a HDD.

HDD is good for storing stuff that you're not going to use a lot, or backups, or large files that will just take up space on your SSD.

Depends how much storage you need. I personally have over 10TB of HDD storage, that would cost me a fortune in SSDs. 

 

If you need to store thing like movies, music, pictures and other data that doesn't really benefit from high transfer speeds, an HDD is a better option when paired with an SSD for the OS and programs that need to launch fast.

It'll always be worth getting an HDD until companies can offer 1TB for $50 USD.

Yes it is and will probably be for a long time. Flash memory is in high demand and lower supply, until supply is saturated the cost to gb wont get much better. HDD are atleast as low in price as they are probably going to get and well made proven technology at this point.

 

The next machine I end up building will probably have atleast a 1tb ssd in it though, since about that size I need to think less about what I'm putting on my main boot drive. Still I have just over 6tb of hdd storage in this pc for personal use, and an offsite archive with 60tb from my recording studio. Having ssds for all that storage is just impracticable for personal use, let alone a stupid cost for backup data from my old business.

Regular? No, not when you can get a 1.1TB SSD for $240.
