What a stupid thread topic, seriously. I don't even understand what you mean when you say he is treating us like kids? I thought the video was fine...

If his style is not up to your standards, here is the door

Look at the YouTube comments. It's full of people either:

1. Sucking AMD's proverbial ****

2. Sucking Intel's proverbial ****

3. Sucking Nvidia's proverbial ****

4. Accusing Linus of being gay

5. Saying *other channel (TekSyndicate, TechOfTomorrow, Austin Evans, etc.) is better*

6. People arguing with each other

7. Random console asshole (not saying consoles are bad, just some of the users are.)

8. AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH YOURE BEANCHMAERK IS DAIFFERRREEENTTT BEKAAAAASSSS EEEEETTTT HASSSS DIFEARRRENTTT NUMABAAAAAHHHHS THAAAAAAAN PAAAULLLL AND LOOOOOOOOOGGGGAAAANNNNN. Realize that he must deal with these bunch of idiots in some way, and forcing them really is the only way to do it. So, as stated before, if you don't like it, leave. Constructive criticism is one thing, and opinionated lies are another.

OK I'm a big Linus fan and I've been watching his videos for years but I think he should remember hes where he is because of the community and he needs to stop treating us like imbeciles.

I refer to the video he's just posted about the launch of the R9 290, he is stood there telling us off about the temperature of the card and if we don't like it turn it down, I just think he's getting a bit too bossy in his video ramblings.

Linus tone it down dude and stop treating us like kids....

Lol, just the responses I expected from a bunch of Linus fanboys, did I say I don't like the way he makes his videos? No. I do like them Im just getting tired of being told off when I do. Its constructive criticism, you can't take that on behalf of Linus then it proves my point.

Dude you first say that you are a "big Linus fan" but then you criticize us and call us LTT fanboys for telling YOU off... If I were you I wouldn't take that approach because there are many, and I mean MANY, of us who won't tolerate any of that so you sir, "tone it down"

Please.

As some of the people in this thread pointed out, I say these things because I have to respond directly to feedback that I'm receiving.

Much of the audience is very techie, and, in the case of the R9 290 video, I even acknowledged their different set of needs by including a "skip to the numbers" button.

For the ones who aren't very techie and having been paying attention, it's important to explain these things. Google "Radeon R9 290X runs at 95C" or something and you'll find people complaining about it when it's just a thermal limit implemented in software. The card will run at 95C until it reaches its power draw limit, but most people don't know that. They just see "omg 95C it runs so hot" and they don't realize they can just turn it down.

We're planning to do some "normalized" testing at 80C between the latest gen NVIDIA and AMD cards and we'll explain this whole thing in more detail at that time, but until then I just have to keep spelling it out as best I can.

If you already know something, just be glad you already know it, and try not to feel like I'm talking down to you. I'm sure if I met you in person I'd understand that you know these things, but since you're 100s of kilometers away in all likelihood, there's no way I can tell who knows or doesn't know anything so I have to cover all the bases.

EDIT: To those in this thread who feel the need to defend me, it's okay. I want people to be able to speak their mind when there's something they don't like about the content. I would rather see everyone being friendly and welcoming to everyone on this community than to see someone shut down because they have a complaint or some feedback for me.

This is not only about defending you or anyone else (which I'll gladly do for anyone here who deserves it), this is about manners and respect as well. You just don't go around calling people names and specially not through the internet where it is way easier to throw something and hide.

Guys, chill out. Its called constructive criticism. We dont need to be a bunch of fanatics here. Some criticism can and is healthy for a growing channel like Linus's. Instead of spamming hate and flaming him, just write why you think he's wrong without jumping on the guy. If Yall dont like his opinion, yall should move onto another thread.

P.S I dont agree with the OP but his point was made, and Im glad he made it because this is a fair and open community right?

Linus has a job which involves informing people of things that are quite often 'pending' or 'open for debate', its no wonder he gets a bit annoyed sometimes. I think sometimes unless you tell people how it is, they will never learn anything. He seems to have this thing where he knows that people out there are scared of reality, he installs the hardware and tells us the pros and cons. Its a well known fact that they 'always' overclock gpu's, so anyone who moans at them because they are upset that theyre card ran hot or didnt overclock well, its really not his fault. So why question him? Hes given AMD so much credit over the last year or so that anyone who questions his fairness when benchmarking needs to go back and look at the 7870, 7950 benchmarking. I would get mad too if i had to put up with fanboyism all the time its computing, for me, the best part or best value part is the best so get over it.

People just hate on AMD and constantly whine about previously stated facts that have been ALREADY DISCUSSED. If people are idiots and you already know that you yourself know that Linus tested his card this way or that way, or AMD does this, then you should take no offense if Linus takes it upon himself to CLARIFY things more clearly than he needs to.

LOL! You don't like how he makes HIS videos, then stop watching him.

or you could make a sugestion. LOL, ever heard of feedback? of course he treats you with ''for the noobs'' explanations on the videos.

ex: buy R290x, run it to 780 performance, and it will be quieter and cheaper. EZ. Thats how I guess it would be doen in the past when non-reference cards where so expensive according to Linus

Let's say, for the sake of argument, I agree with you. If I didn't like how Linus made his videos and the way he presented facts, I wouldn't hate him for doing it that way, I would hate myself for still watching everything he puts out.

How I actually view this is that aside from performance numbers etc. I don't really learn all that much from Linus' videos. I know how to think for myself and figure out things on my own, a lot of the times I just watch his videos for the overviews whil doing work. When he does that thing when he talks very clearly so that he is impossible to misunderstand or he talks about trivial stuff, I just remember that he doesn't nescesarely make videos for the core community here at the forums, he makes videos for people who aren't that good with tech and needs some tips and for the people seeking to learn about whatever he's "unboxing" in any particular video

I guess I am the only person who agrees with you, although I didn't notice it that much. Although I've only been introduced to a few YouTubers, a few of them are a bit snobby due to their reach; although Linus isn't that bad. I do feel however after watching him since over 3 years, there is a bit of change and hes become a bit ruder/ mean/ abusive [whatever you want to call it].

Edit after reading the somewhat bashing comments- Be a fan of someone, not a fanboy. Telling someone to stop watching someone because they disagree with them is just rude and wrong guys; lets be mature here.

Again, why are you taking his comments personally? It's not like he called you out in the video and publicly shamed you or anything...did he? OR, are you one of those (insert company here) fanboys that whined about his benchmarking methodology?

This isn't about a company or me being a fanboy, nor is it me going having a problem with the benchmarking procedure. Its about my philosophy/ opinion on peoples attitude and behavior in situations.

"to the people complaining and whining about high temperatures just turn them down"

are you one of those people? no? then he wasn't talking to you? so why should you act as if he is talking down on you when you weren't even the target?

he is responding to the people who have been talking about it commenting about it, people have been complaining and bitching about temperatures, he replied by saying

"it's made to run at 95*c you don't like it? just turn it down"

yes he is very bossy, people subscribed because he has a strong personality and strong opinions maybe not always 100% correct, sometimes he will yell things at specific groups of people, or aimed at people with certain opinions, it is a response to parts of the community, you shouldn't see everything as if it's aimed directly at you or everyone at all times, and he isn't treating us as "kids" that statement is absurd, this is the internet alot of people say strange things sometimes you got to set them straight, and while you know it someone else might not.

I have no problems with that, he is allowed to say anything, free speech and such things.

What I do have a problem with is that if he has an opinion and voices it then everybody and their grandma automatically agrees.

Linus is a great guy with much insight but there is no reason you have to agree with everything, just form an own opinion first THEN compare it, if you then still agree with everything he says because it matches your opinion then that's great. :)

I guess what I am trying to say is: stop agreeing because of fanboy, agree because your opinion matches or even disagree if you so feel.
