the fury x bench on witcher 3 with relive drivers is pretty optimistic though, since witcher 3 doesn't use a lot of VRAM even at 4K (though you can bump up usage if you install mods...).

I'm also lazy and cbf, running 16.12.1 atm on my dual 290X's and no idea if it made anything better or worse. Couldn't actually care, updating to latest cos that's what you do and it didn't break anything .

I cam from quadfire 6990s actually. if games still had good support for crossfire then I wouldnt have upgraded.

Afterburner works fine for me with the relive drivers, you just have to use afterburner to set custom clocks and fan curve and apply it and it will override Wattman.

 

The drivers for me have been a little buggy, games sometimes crash out of nowhere.

Xbox One had similar low level API's from the start, nothing is really going to change in the console space.

Losing to the 1050 ti though.......... that's r9 380/GTX 960 bracket. That's sad. I'm not pro AMD, I'm pro consumer and it doesn't get more anti consumer than that. After using Nvidia for the last 8 years, I'm not going back in the foreseeable future.

You should mention whoever I quoted then, because this point furthers counters the argument that Microsoft seemingly had a major hand in PC game developers finally starting to optimize for AMD, if that's really what's going on here.

Stock 780 ti/970/390 were still 60% faster than 960/380 previously. There shouldn't be any scenario where the 960/380 catch up regardless of stock or OC.

You said you came from two HD 6990s, which MSRP'd at $700. And if I were to make some gross simplified assumptions about performance scaling, you had what amounted to an R9 290 or so.

 

So talking about "longevity" when you already had a high performance setup, an expensive one at that that less than 0.01% of the PC gaming population would've indulged at the time, is laughable to me.

 

Talk to me in four years about how well your RX 480 holds up.

In a world where someones choice is rx480 or a 1060, the rx480 will likely be better for longer. Thats all I was trying to say. And the person I had quote seem to imply that the amount of dx12 titles now doesnt matter, ignoring that in 2 or 3 years time a lot more games will be dx12.
