I would recommend you to look towards Cherry keyboards. The are very nice.

But first weren't you pleased with the mechanical cherry keys or what was the problem with your odl keyboard?

What didn't you like about the K70? In terms of keyboards they really don't get that much better.

To know what to avoid, we really need to know what you didn't like about the keyboard. I could well be more about the switch than the keyboard itself.

My personal recommendation would be to look at the Ducky Shine series (I think 5 is the current one). I've had my Ducky Shine 3 for a couple of years now and absolutely love it. I have no desire to move to a new keyboard as this one is already so good. I personally like Cherry MX Brown switches (I prefer MX Clear, but they're rare), but that's very subjective.

I don't see why people can't like them. I have a Strafe (aka plastic K70), and while personally I would go for the Strafe RGB over the K70 (because I'm not gonna spend my life savings on a keyboard), I still think the K70's are solid little keyboards.

My experience was the build was OK, for the most part. The scroll wheel is sticky and feels like trash. Same as my buddies K95 and his gfs K70 as well. Switched to the KM780 and it was smooth as butter.

There's also some design choices, like the lack of the G Keys. I get them on the KM780, at a lower price.

Both have very similar aluminium builds, I liked the wrist rest of the KM780 more, and it was $40 less.

Just seems like the K70 isn't great value for the money.

That too.  For the $160 I spent on it I didn't feel like the value was there.  I know I could have gotten the same for $100.

Only thing with the km780 is its too gamer looking for me.  I want simple but with white lights hence something rgb.  Do you know much about these new switches on the ornata?

K70's are extremely overpriced for what you get. Hell, the strafe is nearly as solid as the K70 (at least in my experience with flexing the one at Best Buy), and the Strafe is plastic with (I think) a steel plate in the bottom for weight and structure. I'm not even all that bothered about having hotkey-style media keys, since I'm used to that from my laptop.

Also, IMO, the Strafe is just a lot easier to keep nice looking. And the RGB version of it... HNGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Personally I love my K70 RGB but I have been noticing the occasional double key press once in a while but nothing that really effects me. I would recommend something like a G910 if you hate the K70.

Try a blue switch keyboard, you won't regret it. I have Razer Blackwidow TE (although Razer uses green color for blue type switches) and I'm very satisfied with that, Cherry blues however have a deeper click, so you'd have to decide which one is more up your alley. By the way, Razer Ornata should have a similar, tactile feel like blue switches, so you may want to look into that too.

ive used many a different keyboards silent and clicky. The best one i had for a while was my razer anansi because im an avid wow player and that is the perfect keyboard but after a drunken night and breaking it i ended up getting the razer blackwidow chroma you might want to consider it. I can honestly say its the best keyboard ive used out of many different ones

And nope this is not fanboyism just my 2cents :) hope you make a decent choice and you're next keyboard

I will agree that the K70 is bad value for money since it's so damn expensive and doesn't really offer anything you can't find elsewhere for about half the price. But it's just as good if not superior to most other major mechanical keyboards using the same switches.

If you don't like the way the keys are actually built then you may want to avoid Cherry MX based keyboards and look at custom ones - Razer, Logitech and I think Steelseries(?) sell mechanical keyboards with their own custom-made switches, so you could look there. If your problem is with the responsiveness of the key as you said... maybe you could buy a Cherry MX test kit? You should be able to find them online for not much money, basically something with 1 example key of each Cherry switch.  Then you can find which switch you like.

If you buy something looking like this then you can try out the different switches at low cost:

Max-Cherry-Sampler-Kit-004.jpg

On the other hand as someone said, you may just have got a defective keyboard.

Get yourself a bunch of vintage PS/2 Keyboards. They're cheap and disposable and you'll never get locked out of your bios again because of usb issues.
