I once thought that they might do something like this, but then I thought that it was insane and they would never actually engage in the exact thing they're trying to stop.  I guess I was wrong.  What's next, reselling seized drugs to see who buys a lot? xD

Unless you want to kill every widescreen watching person, and unless you want to force everyone to eat beef, gun's don't really matter. Same goes for nukes and such.

 

Potential market size and economy is alot more important. And with Trump on the helm, all those 2nd world countries should be able to dump the USD. (China was already trying to build a huge new banking empire) Also, China and India are both busy with their own space races, while the US has to borrow russian rockets for some time now, and has to get businesses to start their own space programs. Way to go.

I don't and there are even worse kinds of porn out there. Although pedo porn is a rather large category... Like 2 people which both are 15, and were already having sex, and making "naugty pictures" of themselfs for the other, isn't THAT bad. But when some 50+yo guy splits open a baby, well... That's some really nasty stuff I can't beat with examples at the top of my hat. (and yes, that kind of sex happens)

 

Knowing how f*cked up some people can be is just very interesting. That's why I am also not surprised the murikans voted trump for president.

I did not say it was entrapment, I said it was dangerously close to it.

Here, they were actually hosting the site, made it faster and more reliable (asking for feedback from users), under their ownership the website quadrupled in size and I'd say distributing is a more serious crime than "merely" downloading it (that's what the movie industry has been arguing for years at least).

Come on... They control roughly half of the distribution network. Imagine if the police was responsible for half of all the drugs sold, or half of all the robberies, or half of all the rapes. The ends clearly does not justify the means.

 

Committing a serious crime, millions of times over, to catch 100 people that committed a less severe crimes does not sound like a good deal to me.

For some reason I hypothesis that sting operations like this don't actually work as they are intended to work. Instead of just getting just existing criminals they contribute to the creation of new criminals.

This is one of the most confusing topics I take on. On one end, I understand that you gotta get your hands dirty sometimes to stop a problem. On another end, it's still hosting child pornography.

If they arent uploading it, and it allowed them to find the large crime rings then I dont see the issue. its the same with any crime. Arresting small fry gets you no where, you need to hit them hard at the source. This likely lets them be able to bust large operations.

 

Legal grey area sure but its for childrens benefit so who cares? All this has done is hinder investigations.

Unless the government paid for google banner adds and sent out flyers it not exactly entrapment.....

 

You don't just stumble into those types of websites and watch 20 videos, you do that and you deserve to become someone's ass slave in jail.

...but it does not solve the problem of CP development.  The actual act of making the content.

 

What the FBI is doing might actually inflate the demand for more content.  We would need hard numbers and case files to see the efficacy of the program.

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

They already found the large crime rings. They took those rings over, made them even larger and then use them to go after a few small fry.

From what I understand, they do not upload anything themselves, but they are the ones hosting it.

 

Also, I think it would be best for the children if they just cut off the supply. Not made the supply bigger and easier to access.

No. The content, sadly, needs to come from somewhere. Thats what they are trying to find out. 

 

And cutting the supply by half would only drive an increase in demand. 

Imo its worse for new content to be made than for existing content to remain.

I have no problem with them simply operation these websites, but to upgrade and expand? That's too far, especially if only a measly 100 people have been charged.

This is bad because a person just has to buy a tablet for like 10-50 dollars, and go to public wifi. He has real legitimate pictures, and videos. Put it on a USB drive or SD card. Then throw away the tablet. 

 

So basically 50 dollars for whatever the real stuff... They should just ban it altogether.

That's not even the point. The child pornography "business" is a heinous crime not for the act of looking at the content per se, but because it fuels the creation of more - meaning more child abuse etc. The FBI is actively doing the worst part of the deal to supposedly catch the minor offenders.

I mean, like you said, it was (at least somewhat) efficient at finding these sick fucks.

So I'm looking at it at a grey area.  They are catching said sick fucks, but at the same time.  God, that's just... so sick as fuck to be hosting the sites.

It's a grey area in my opinion.  But still, there has to be a better way of catching these people, right?

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.
