Exciting stuff! I don't imagine RTS is something optimal for VR, but anything that puts me closer to the RA2 universe is a win!

At around 1:15 it shows how you'd move about the map. I'd imagine it's there to accommodate the varying room sizes of peoples setups.

Very cool. This is the type of thing that will eventually get me into VR. So if they are doing this with RA2, I can only imagine how awesome City Builder type games will be if/when they develop them for VR(if they aren't already?).... Like you're in that movie Inception xD

Am I the only one who thinks this would be amazingly tedious?

 

Like don't get me wrong I loved the game as a kid but some matches can go pretty damn long and I think the novelty would wear off pretty fast.

I'd rather see a VR version of C&C Renegade tbqh.

Just a bit.    It's cool but I still think the standard interface would be best.

 

I agree that Renegade would be more suited for a VR treatment.  Though a graphical remake and bug removal would be nice. 

 

I remember I got halfway through a level on a NOD cargo ship and I had to start over literally from the beginning of the game because a bug caused a door not to unlock to get to the other half of the ship to finish the level.  

 

So fixing stuff like that would be nice.

Realistically I would never play  RA2 VR or Renegade VR for more than a month. As polished as Renegade X , C&C Reborn, and openRA are, they have no staying power for me because they are not new games, just imaginings of the same game. Im happy that people care enough to make polished remakes, but I'd be even happier if the franchise relaunched.

That looks amazing, but so horribly unpractical.

But imagine if you could go to enemy base and explore, just by walking there, w/o any units. 

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

It's a proof of concept, with some more work surely you could make the interface much more practical.

Absolutely agree, but it could never be better in terms of how fast you can react due to shortucts and key mapping. Not for competitive play that is. Or vs ai on harder difficulties. My 2 cents.

People saying it not practical are only partly right. It not practical for that style of RTS game but how about Total war games ? Make a Realism version where you are just sat on horse (or on foot) commanding a army or the game RUSE, it had in it's full Zoomed out mode looked like a War room with tokens being move across a map. Now that kinda stuff is Cool as Fudge and would work well for VR.

 

VR is more about the experience then anything else
