Is a core i3 (hyperthreading) good for gaming?

So I been thinking about getting a core i3 and hyper threading it to save some money on a budget build. But is it worth it or should i just save up a little more to get a core i5 or maybe a i7? Also what are the pros and cons of t hyper threading it.

Get an i5 at least. Hyperthreading helps by keeping data in queue for the cores to work on.

tldr, i you realy want better fps for more demanding game, i5 its the better choice

i3 is more suitable for light gaming like csgo, league, that kinda stuff

My Gf is using a Pentium for light gaming, works fine and runs most games on high settings. Just doesn't run newer triple A games on high. I'm sure you'll be fine with a decent i3. Check my sig pcpartspicker link for details on my builds(one i5 and one Pentium)

From my understanding if you aren't trying to play the latest and greatest at ultra settings it should be functional, but personally would go for something better, all depends on what you want to play.

It's pretty good. As powerful as an AMD 8370.

It's not the greatest, an i5 would of course be preferred. But it all depends on what you play.

It can easily play most games, GTA etc included. Not just the games that can run on integrated graphics ;)

It depends on what games you're going to play, but if you can spare the cash, go for the i5.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

Hyperthreading is critical on Intel dual cores. The Pentiums (which don't have it) are horrible gaming cpus while the i3s (which do) are good budget gaming cpus.

Core i3s are good gaming cpus in certain builds, but whether or not an i3 or i5 makes the most sense is entirely dependent on your budget and what kind of games you play. The question can't reasonably be answered without knowing what you're willing to spend and what you're looking to do.

They are decent, but if you want to play Battlefield 1, you will want to get at least an i5. Even i7's (quad-core) can have issues with Battlefield 1.

Hyper-threading makes the most difference between a Pentium and an i3. In a LTT video of it the fps is pretty much cut in half when going from an i3 to a Pentium. An i3 is the minimum for modern games nowadays.
