Ark is always inaccurate for what the CPU really supports. It's mostly dependent on the board itself. I did find a youtube video of a guy claiming to have 2133mhz DDR3L installed in his Asus N550JK, so I am going to assume it works. 

 

Don't know what the prices are in Croatia, but in the US, you can get 8GB of 2133 DDR3L for $50, or 16GB for $100. http://pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#t=9&sort=a7&s=302133&page=1

 

Since primary timings are nearly untouched compared to your current kit, the free bandwidth should reduce latency to nearly 60ns with that kit, assuming IMC treats tertiary timings right.

Well my country sucks. I can't seem to find a single DDR3L SODIMM stick above 1600. I can get 16 GB DDR4L for ~$85, but no DDR3L. Seems ebay will be my friend when the time comes. 

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

No they don't. Reducing the screen brightness to minimum only buys me 30 minutes on my MacBook Pro. The GPU is the most power hungry part without exception.

Lol. On my Surface Pro 4, putting minimum brightness may get me 1-4 more hours depending on workload.

This is beyond stupid imho, but hey, who needs battery life, right?

It might be stupid for a phone, but is very nice for a tablet or a labtop with soldered RAM.

Also there is something called "race to sleep": get the job done as fast as possible to go back to the lowerst power state as soon as possible. It does not have to be bad for the battery to be fast.

Makes perfect sense to me. Memory bandwidth has been an issue on mobile for as long as I can remember.

No it hasn't. If it had been it would be a huge issue on desktops purely by the nature of desktops actually doing vastly more intense work.

 

Seriously, you think the chip producing all the heat your fingers feel to the tune of about 2.5W is using less power than the backlight and the pixel shields? 

 

It's historically caused no issues except for crappy software.

Not when all you're doing is 2D graphics. Heck any half-decent modern CPU with DDR3 1600 can do 100% of the rendering for a 720p 2D game without breaking a sweat (citation = my game engine code blog).

Interesting. I knew they have increased the specs for the iPad Pro but I didn't realize like that. Then again the thing is the size of a small car

And on desktops we actually have far higher bandwidth. Even the RX 480 has a memory bandwidth of 224GB/s. This memory, on a 64bit wide interface, will have a bandwidth of 32GBps. So this has 1/7 the bandwidth of the RX 480, which is a midrange desktop card.

It really isn't that unreasonable when you consider the fact that this might end up in things like tablets (Surface Pro, iPad Pro and the likes). The A9X (used in the iPad Pro) sits at 51.2GB/s.

 

If you look at the announcement from Samsung you will see that they did not same phones (phones is not mentioned anywhere on the page), they said "mobile devices" and even gave high end ultra-slim notebooks as an example.

I am not even sure that chip would fit inside a phone. It is slightly larger than the entire A9 SoC by itself (15x15mm vs 15x14.5mm).

Don't turn this around on me. I want you to provide a source for your claim.

I can't find any good measurements of average power usage for a chip like the Snapdragon 820, so I am not going to make any claim. What I do know however, is that mobile devices have very large spikes in CPU and GPU load, so just looking at peak power will not give you a proper indication of average power usage.

On iOS devices? It has caused issues. Because of the low amount of RAM iOS devices has historically been extremely aggressive with expunging background data. It drove me crazy when I tried using an iPad because it kept deleting background data. It couldn't even keep more than a couple of tabs in RAM. Oh, didn't look at this tab in like 2 minutes? Better delete it so that you have to reload it again! At one point it was even causing frequent crashes on the iPad Mini, but people didn't notice because an iOS crash just sends you back to the home screen.

Most people I see underestimate the hardware in iOS devices are actually Apple fans. They often try to downplay the hardware and explain the performance with "optimization", or by saying Android is poorly optimized.

You can make a Go game that has a resolution of 19x19. Wanna know what hardware Google needed to power the AI of AlphaGo? In the match against Lee it ran on 1920 CPUs and 280 GPUs (in before you claim you could run it on an iPhone without breaking a sweat).

And before you claim that it's easy and you can do it with AVX in a second, Go has a game-tree complexity of 10360. For comparison, the observable universe is estimated to contain 1080 atoms.

And again, that's for a game running at 19x19...
