Cooler Master 212x fans

coolmrschill

My pc theme is red and I was wondering if you could or if it would be a big deal to swap the standed black fans with some red ones

nope, should be all good. just make sure the fan is PMW so it can be controlled better. any standard 120mm fan should work. better bearing would make it quieter if you can find red one with a fluid bearing i would pick that one.  i also don't know your pc specs but, if it isn't overheating now it shouldn't with different fans.

I'm building my first PC with these these parts :). With a Cooler Master 212x could I overclock it a fair bit? What would you recommend under the same price range for maximum overclocking ability while still being very quiet?

i have the 6600k with that exact cooler running 4.8ghz @ 1.38v with the hottest core of arround 73c with constant non stop gaming. - So the answer is yes.

Yeah, dont expect those exact #'s for your cpu. It could be "worse" or much better.

Here is my build. Currently have the Cooler Master 212x looking for a quieter model with the same performance.

If you want a quieter heatsink, just replace the fan on it, rather than the entire heatsink itself.

Be Quiet or Noctua are good options, depending on budget.

Deepcool, be quiet!, and Noctua make much better fans compared to the 212's stock fan.

If all you're going for a quieter system, then just get a be Quiet Silent Wings 3 fan and you're good to go.
The Silent Wings 3 is probably the quietest fan on the market.

Eh...

I'd go with a corsair H60 and a custom fan curve that doesnt turn the fan on until 50C. A bit more... reliable, in case the fans are needed.

The fan could still be replaces of course

Then I would rather take a cooler that is designed to run passive like the Thermaltake Le Grand Macho...

The D15 outperforms the H60 :P

right, but simply taking the fans off could have consequences if the CPU does end up requiring them.

in either event, the simplest solution is just to get 2 nice Noctua fans for the heatsink @coolmrschillalready has.

Corsair Air Series AF120 or the Noctua NF-F12 PWM? Which one is better for the price?

You don't need waterproofing on your fans. AF120. If you want quieter, find something else.

Put 2fan on your cooler (high static pressure recommended) and you're good to go. watch overclocking guide here:

For my first build I think I'm going to get a Cooler Master 212x but I don't like the fans so I'm going to replace them with the Cosair SP120's. But I was thinking would it be cheaper to just by the heatsink without fans?

Just get the hyper 212 man, also why bother replacing the fans? also 2 fans really isn't going to make a difference

Also I'd totally go with fractical design Venturi 140mm fans as they'll be a bit bigger/quieter and you can make them fit where 120mm fans fit

Or just buy a Noctua heatsink

The 212 is pretty bad if you are just planning on replacing the fans. I would recommend getting something like the H7, as it looks nicer and performs about the same maybe a little better
