I'm wondering how did it die...my Asus 270X goes to 1305MHZ on core and 1500MHZ running without any problems.

But yeah that 60 Euros could save you money for something else, so i'd say get a 480.

The problem is that some people over at reddit get 79c while gaming tough most reviewers get 75c the only question is do they use a open test bench? Or are they suing a case just like the reddit users most likely where doing... (I heard the card does also not give you the boost clock advertised at 79c)

Thats something from the past.

RX480 Strix card has a decent cooler on it.

THe DCUIII cooler on the Fury was also decent aswell.

well the aircoolers are a bit meh (gigabytes g1 card is trash) , if you get a waterblock (ek has nice ones) or an aftermaket aircooler (arctic has some very good ones)  you can hit some good ocs , jay watered his 480 recently and hit almost 1500 w/ almost no extra voltage

I've always been a loyal fan of the red team (go Radeon 9200!) but this last GPU I bought died without any warning and without me abusing it (no OCing or temperature nonsense) and it was just 2+1/2 years old!

It all started with the occasional freeze (I don't consider this a warning, it happens!), whilst performance was great so I did not put much attention into it, then yesterday it froze... and now all it does is BIOS menus and Windows Safe Mode, anything that remotely need to multiply 2 time 2 it just generates a black screen! I've asked a friend to test it out on his system and he has the same results, so i pronounced the board functionally dead and started looking for a new one. I don't wanna go blaming this on ASUS or AMD, maybe it was bad luck so lets roll with that...

I begun looking at the 300€ish  segment and the only options I found were an RX480 or a GTX1060 (for a bit more).

I know the performance of both cards is really close and I could not justify the extra 60€ to 70€ to get the green card, and thinking with my wallet... AMD needs the money

 

So do you guys feel like I should feed my inner red fanboy or can you swing me to the green team?

And what manufacturer do you guys like the most?

Go for RX 480 but make sure not to buy an Asus model. Asus make terrible AMD AIB cards.

So because their 290(X) and 390 (X) hard a rubbish cooler, means every AMD card they make sucks?

I'm just trying to be real. If you're buying an AMD GPU, you might as well choose either: Sapphire, Gigabyte, PowerColor or XFX.

I can tell you that the Asus RX480 Strix has one the best pcb´s i have seen till now on a RX480.

 

Core Voltage vrm:.

- PWM: 3567B pwm 6+2 phases.

  6 true phases for core voltage.

- Powerstages: IR3555 60A.

- 60A inductors

- 10K caps.

 

Memory vrm:

- highside fet rated at 61A.

- 2x low-side fets rated at 65A each.

 

I have not seen any better RX480 pcb with more potential yet.

Its a freaking beast, realy overkill

But RX-480 Strix is one of the best one out there right now alongside XFX GTR, MSI Gaming. I get mixed feedback about Sapphire Nitro, some say it's loud and hot but some say it's quiet with reasonable temp(70c+).

 

RX-480 Red Devil use lousier VRM and it probably explode if you run Furmark according to Buildzoid.

the gigabyte is the worst of the 480´s ,the asus is good , but has aggressive temp targets , wich you can change in wattman to get the full performance and stop it from throttling (temp target on the asus is 65 , sapphire has 70)

God help you if you have to RMA based on all the horror stories I have read about them claiming bent pins on boards in fine condition to weasel out of replacing them. Plus I'm still pissed at my Asus Nexus tablet where half the touchscreen all of a sudden became unusable a month and a half after the warranty ended despite no trauma. I had been using Asus boards almost exclusively in builds for myself and friends since 1997 (though I did use one killer Abit board on a personal rig I built in 02) until a couple of years ago, but the company seems like it has gone way downhill in the last 3 years or so. I don't trust them any more. The bent pins excuses they make are unforgivable. So is just slapping the 780 Ti cooler on a 290x despite 780 Ti die having a much bigger die so a couple of heatpipes don't even contact the core.

Hi again guys! Thanks for the huge support, I'm currently asking for pricing and  availability for cards ill get back at you once i got those sorted.

 

In the mean time, a colleague of mine suggested putting the half dead card in the oven, does this make any sense at all?

(it's worthless anyway but shall I give it a try?)
