7th Gen Intel processor

You mean as in the upcoming Kaby Lake CPU's vs. the Skylake CPU's or do you mean compared to the newest i7's (6800K, etc.) or what? You have to give some more info on what you want to compare.

 

Either way, generally a next gen Intel CPU is about 10-30% more performance than the last one.

The performance increase is probably minimal. it will probably improve mostly in efficiency

Yes, they will be better. But this better is not what you might consider significant, some years ago, a new generation would make the previous generation nearly obsolete because the advantages of the newer processor were so obvious. Now to see some concrete improvements you may want to skip 2/3 generations.

The difference over skylake will be pretty small. From what we know right now it seems Kaby lake won't offer much of an ipc jump at all (probably less than 1%) but due to the use of an improved 14nm process the mobile Kaby lake parts at least are more efficient and thus have higher clock speeds than skylake. We don't know if Kaby lake will be much better than skylake on the desktop, though. It might be possible that as frequency goes up the different between Kaby lake and skylake shrinks or it might be possible Kaby lake can reach clock speeds skylake can't.

Can you please wait untill the 7700k is in the hands of reviewers? From the looks of it, the 7th gen will basically be the 6th with higher starting clocks and / or overclocking, but until people actually have it to do benchmarks, we're stuck to guessing.

I read on some tech website that Kaby Lake is basically just an optimization of Skylake. The 14 nm+ process allows highier frequencies (about 12% compared to Skylake, 300-400 MHz to be clear), but the pipeline (so the IPC) is pratically the same. These frequencies improvements are important in single thread application (the main focus is on mobile devices), meaning quicker time to complete it before going back to idle, effectively saving power (so battery on mobile devices).

Skylake re-brands, errr I mean refresh it is the same as 290 to 390 same architecture just better optimized such as less power consumption and higher clocks... :P
