Project Penny

sme81

Hey guys, after being involved in a car vs motorbike traffic collision I've needed something to pass the time. So after poking about I had enough old parts to make a system, apart from a case. So ordered a case and got to work. Aim of this build is to have a tidy as possible build, and to pass the time untill I can get back on a bike. Few gruesome photos of my leg if any of you lot want to see it, be warned.

Need to remove these sections to improve cable management options.

Added another fan, along with a zalman fan controller for the 8800GS, because without it the fan runs at 100% (2pin fan connector on the 8800). You can also see that I have removed the 3.5" drive cage, via dremel.

Going to paint the fans. They where a hassle to get off.

How long ago was he accident? your leg looks pretty bad.

This build seems very interesting, pink dvd drive, pink sleeving. I love how you're taking any normal case and making changes to it, can't wait to see what the finished project looks like! Subbed.

Thanks for your views guys :)

Nit3Rid3R - Accident was 5 months ago now. As for the case it was just one of the cheapest I could find online £20 delivered. Plenty of time on my hands to cut it up and paint it.

Waiting on more pink sleeving arriving as well as primer for some painting. Still havn't decided fully on what bits are gonna be black or pink. The chassis will be matte black, then thinking of the (to be windowed) side panel pink, along with PCI slot covers, front grill, fan blades and PSU case. Might also do the floor of the case pink. Tuesday will be next picture update day I'm hoping.

Sorry for the late update but here it is any way :)

Got the PSU sleeved finally, (staples are fantastic for removing ATX pins). Also Pinked the PSU case

Custom sleeved LED strip

Thinking of painting the mesh behand the black bars at the bottom. Just to see what it would look like I just put pink vinyl over it. What do yous think?

Acrylic sheeting also got delivered today and was quickly sliced up.

Bottom piece is for the floor of the case to cover up all the holes, and the top piece is going to span from the PSU to the DVD drive bay. this will help hide cables.

Is thermal armour a trade mark? This machine isnt about performance at all, just going to pink this to hide the colour of the mobo.

402384_10151554692633665_1408848525_n.jpg

Also got Pink RAM heatspreaders, First time i've ever put a pair on, Think they sharpen the look of the RAM up a bit and will help with the theme.

That's it for this update. Next update i am hoping to have laid some paint down on the case and fans (Waiting on sand paper to be delivered)

looks great keep the updates comin!

-don't like the pink vinyl behind the front panel, think you should just use the space for a fan in the front.

-awesome sleeving!

-like the idea to use acrylic over the mobo.

Happy to see the feed back about the mobo cover :)

mvitkun - the vinyl behind the front panel is just to see what the color contrast would have looked like, I have pink paint waiting for it so all the holes will still be there and ill have a fan behind it.

Props to doing your own cable sleeving guys. Could I suggest you put your SSD somewhere in the case though where it can be seen. I personally like being able to see them in a rig, just a thought. Hope you two are close to recovery, gnarly pics!

Props for wanting to get back to riding after an accident like that. I'm going to start riding in early fall when i can get enough money for a motorcycle and lots o' gear.

Anyways, I do love the plexi for a motherboard cover. Keep building and keep riding.

Update Time!

Time to paint the fans. Now these fans are not built to be taken apart but there's always a work around.

903016_10151573846753665_204542689_o.jpg

First I have to drill away the plastic on the back side around the fan shaft

882544_10151573846773665_970544108_o.jpg

Widen the circle out to expose the shaft collar

901790_10151573847068665_1008839770_o.jpg

Next I popped the collar out and that enables the frame to be seperated from the fan blades

902985_10151573847203665_314629906_o.jpg

Painted blades and re-assembled

893893_10151573848033665_783130993_o.jpg

We also painted the case matte black

Test fitting parts
