Only if your definition of "more than enough for every 1080p game" includes lowering graphical settings to get 60 FPS in non DX12, graphically-intensive games.

And an RX 480 can't hit 60 FPS at 1440p even in DX-12 heavy games.

(not all games are running at max settings in this video

Lower Anti Aliasing and shadows but still staying about high in the most demanding of titles. That just tagged Digital Foundry video showed at Ultra settings in every game it stayed about 40. At max, at 1440p. Your video is also 1440p. 1080p benches show it getting over 60, every time

I wanted to show that it's not, per-se, a 1440p card. In 1080p, for graphically-intensive games, it still requires turning down settings to hit and maintain 60 FPS.

It's a decent gaming card, and good for the money, but as someone who typically plays graphically-intensive games, I think that my description of it applies to someone with my gaming habits.

I never saw it dip below 50, most iof the time it was at 60

In non DX12 games, the best AMD card of their newest generation is about as powerful as a GTX 970, the mid-tier card from Nvidia's previous generation. Nvidia is on the GTX 10XX series right now. AMD is competing against Nvidia's performance from last generation, which makes it literally generational.

The RX 480 competes with the GTX 1060 from Nvidia's current generation. The GTX 970 is a higher tier card from the last generation; it launched at over $300.

In The Division, it's at 60 as the video starts, but drops to 38 - 54 as the camera moves closer to the street.

In the Witcher 3 section, Gameworks features are disabled, and the FPS moves between a bit under 60 FPS, and a bit above 60 FPS.

In RotTR, FPS are above 80 while the camera is only showing Laura, while there's no terrain in view. When the camera brings some of the terrain into view, the FPS drops to mid-40s, and further playable areas shows mid-40's to mid-50's FPS.

AotS generally shows  40 - 50 FPS.

Far Cry Primal generally shows 48 - 64 FPS.

Hitman shows constantly above 60 FPS.

AC Unity shows 40 - 70 FPS.

Crysis 3 shows above 60 FPS.

Hook it up to a freesync panel and it won't matter...the experience will be good even as low at 40fps...

Pricing will be key.

It needs to be in between the GTX 1070 and 1080 pricewise for top end Vega. Otherwise everyone is getting screwed.

I still can't believe I paid less last year on launch day for my 980Ti Superclocked cards than it was for a GTX 1080 even now. Prices are bad. :(

why does it have to be cheaper if performance is in line?

what logic is that? #Teamgreenlogic??

It should be cheaper otherwise they're simply raising the overall price. NVIDIA are already being scumbags charging more for the 1080 than the 980Ti was.

If AMD comes in cheaper with similar performance they'll be bringing balance back to prices and be able to sell more. It'll also force NVIDIA to finally lower their prices to somewhat reasonable levels.

Can you explain that hashtag? In what way is asking for competition to lower prices team green logic?

Hasn't this rumor been around for awhile? I don't think AMD has ever given us a concrete date as to when they'd release Vega. Any case, hopefully they don't go the Fury X route and market this thing as being a Titan X killer and marketing it as an overclockers dream when it's a chore just to push a %10 overclock on it.

Vega will likely have a proper release in April/May 2017 (if all goes well). If Vega were to launch this October, it wouldn't even be a paper launch... more like a vapor launch.

Why so late? SK Hynix and Samsung are clearly producing HBM2, even if it's in meager numbers, and unless there's some fairly massive architectural revisions over Polaris (which I doubt), then it shouldn't take that long.

If AMD can launch a GPU 4-5 months after finishing the design, Nvidia are screwed in the long run. That's just pure sorcery.

If you are buying a PC you need a monitor, you might aswell get freesync one for the extra £50-60 they cost, and thats for a 1080p 144hz one....

Even if you get a 1440p panel Freesync is not much extra cost.

On a small budget there are 1080p monitors with limited but good enough freesync range for around £120, the same price a bog standard 1080p monitor.

The point is Freesync does not come with a premium....

And no sht the 480 isn't a 1440p card....no card is in the price range

That's not true. Not everyone who buys a PC is buying a new monitor to go with it. Many ,including myself, used what they had lying around. If someone is moving to PC from a console then can just use their TV which is what a lot of people do as well. I also disagree with your point that it wouldn't matter that it is getting 40fps if someone has freesync. 60fps is till better plain and simple. All this started because it has been advertised as a 1440p gaming card. They aren't completely wrong is saying that as there are games that it can run at 1440p 60fps but the list isn't very long. It is a good 1080p card that can do some 1440
