the source claims that from all 200000 units sold globally by MSI, more than 8000 unit were sold in mainland China - out of those, 100% of them were RMAed 

holly ballz! :o

 

and I though ASUS doesn't know how to design video cards .... MSI doesn't know how to do Quality Assurance

 

seems like the culprit for this whole situation are the Samsung's GDDR5 VRAM chips

but who knows, nVidia's GPU Boost 3.0 might have a hand in it too

Their motherboards are currently failing as well, loads of people on their forums suddenly getting error codes with no post after months of use, for me its happened on both my original, and replacement board.

 

I've been trying to chase up a clear answer from MSI support why this issue is happening on so many of their mobos, but so far no answer.

wonder if MSI was one of the board manufacturers that was going out of business next year? maybe they decided to cheapen up their parts to ride the train out?

I thought only TUL's graphic cards segment was the one shutting down.

not hardly. as a matter of fact........... kinda. I think it was their graphics cards being sold under a different name ( europe/asia )? that they decided to stop. not TUL USA.

TUL isn't shutting down :dry:

 

they recently closed VTX3D; but they still have PowerColor that's alive and well

that's right.

 

to edit above............. there are 3 motherboard manufacturers that are going belly up. I think Biostar was one of them.......... can't find the article, was wondering if MSI was also on the list. I haven't purchased any of their products in years.

Miners would not represent 100% of the buyers,  plus the 1070 is pretty bad at ethereum mining

I am not surprised at all, i have problems with my MSI card, and their RMA system sucks donkey balls.

 

For the life of me i dont know why people recommend them.

This happened before. It happens when a company makes super cheap capacitors or another vital component but really cheap out on it. MSI probably looked for the cheapest one or the company changed the recipe and now a couple months later stuff is failing. The last time this happened a company stole half the blue prints to a capacitor and made up the rest and they seemed like the great HQ ones stolen from design but a couple months later hundreds of thousands of motherboards had blown capacitors. It ranged from all foxconn boards to Dell and so on. It was a huge rush of people with all the same problem for about a month

I hate to hear that.. I was extremely happy with my MSI 970's I had, and the MSI 390x I have on my bench right now.
I've never ran into any problems,but have been hearing more and more about issues with their new products.

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

100% RMA rate? That's insane.

A QC rate that deplorable and an RMA service as awful as it is is not a great mix.

If it's not that there is definitely something weird about China, which would explain why it's so high there but not as high in the rest of the world
