What Should I Do With My Spare Parts PC?

I recently built a PC out of left over parts i gathered

-Athlon X2

-Dell Motherboard

-500GB Hard Drive

-GTX750

 

I really do not know what to do with it. I want to do something that would benefit, I know theirs Folding@Home but i want something that is similar to Bitcoin Mining and that money that is generated gets sent to a donation of choice. Idk if this is possible or sounds ridiculous

Any type of mining is NOT worth it at this point. Folding@home, boinc, sell it on craigslist, htpc, lots o stuff.

Honestly I would try making a server for Steam. The Dell can be sold for parts on Ebay. Put that 500GB into a NAS server with the Athlon. Or use the Athlon and 750 for F@H.

Bitcoin values are very low and have been for a while. And the way you make money (even though you're donating) is up to chance.

I would personally make a server.  You would need some RAM, which would probably be your biggest need (depending on the servers you ran of course). But, you could actually run a decent server with the components you have as long as it wasn't hosting something like two ARK Servers.  

 

You could host an FTP or TFTP server, or you could also host an email server, a web server (a web server requires extra security attention), Samba Server etc.  A Samba Server would be useful as it could allow you backup to that server from all your computers in different directories (File History on Windows 8 & up supports network backup.) and there is no reason why you can't get another NIC and make a network security system like a Firewall or even an IPS like Snort.

Use it as a backup PC so if your main rig ever goes down, you can immediately get back online with a capable system for the time being as repairs are made.
