Newegg Premier hands down

Newegg mostly. Amazon I usually choose if the price is the same or I can use Prime for fast deliveries on Sundays.

NewEgg has never let me down, and i do not have a prime account, though i have used them long before they incorporated the listings of other dealers/suppliers. Even the 2 times i had to return faulty parts, their customer service was great to help.

on that note, Amazon has been ok, but i have not always received what I expected to get. Misslisted items has been a long issue with Amazon.

I've purchased a few hundred items from Amazon over the years and I've never once gotten the wrong item. 

 

I have both Newegg Premier (as I got it for free as a student for a year) and Amazon Prime (which I actively pay for), and I would say both are equally good -- although, when I'm at school I don't pay tax on anything I buy from Newegg, so if the price is more or less the same I'll opt for Newegg when I'm at school to avoid tax. When I'm at home (and I would have to pay tax on either) I usually go with Amazon but both are very good.

Amazon Prime hands down. They tend to do somethings better like throwing in thermal paste for free when you bundle it with something $25 or more. Then again Newegg will give you a granola bar or cheese stick in the box

The one that is cheaper. When I built my current rig. I literally bought half at Newegg and Half at Amazon. It was based on the price. However my sister has Amazon prime and my Credit Card is on her account, so if I cant wait, I can get 2 day shipping.

I use Newegg because of the consistency, but if Amazon has a better price then I might go with them instead. Newegg's site is always well laid out, all of the prices are very 'organized' (no weird prices like $37.34 or something, everything ends in .99, just bugs me for some reason) and the shipping is always the same way I got it the last time.

I have both Premier and Prime and because I live in Tennessee, I get charged tax at both Newegg and Amazon. I go with who has the better deal. If they are the same price, I usually pick Newegg due to Premier's better return policy.

 

I probably spend more money at Amazon overall though. Lots of shit Newegg doesn't carry. Also, video games. The Prime discount on new releases is awesome.

How does newegg have a better return policy than Amazon's "you say it's busted?  Instant replacement!" policy?  Not saying you're wrong just curious.

Yeah same here in Wisconsin.  Within the last year or two I forget exactly when Amazon built a stupid warehouse/fulfillment center (idk which) in Kenosha and even before they had the place built Amazon had completed the paperwork to officially start collecting sales tax.  The bastards...  

 

I hate it.  I used to be able to buy more stuff knowing that I didn't have to account for prices getting jacked up from tax.  Especially on larger things it really helped a lot saving that money.

Newegg for tech & especially for "window" shopping. Amazon UI is horrible for Just browsing. 

And I've gotten a few mislabeled items from Amazon because of their trying to use the resellers market. Newegg has some of that, but much easier to filter by newegg warehouse only.

Amazon if they have what I want in stock, so when it comes to tech stuff, not usually. In Canada, Amazon is my go to because of the free shipping, but if we're talking PC parts the only parts Amazon had for my latest build that were cheaper/comparable in price were the thermal paste and CPU cooler. Really poor tech selection on Amazon.ca. Everything else I had to get from others places, including Newegg. My only complain is that Newegg.ca prices can be quite high when compared to other places, and they offer no free shipping no matter how much you spend. Once you get a few items in your cart the shipping cost really begins to pile up. I've never looked into Premier mind you, but I also don't have Prime, so this is just in regards to both company's regular services.

I live in Ireland and I buy from the UK amazon(I didn't buy any thing since they left the eu so this is based on my previous experience) stuff comes usually 1-2 days before expected without prime. My friend complained about high shipping fees on new egg. If amazon had no European Union warehouses I'd be forced to pay import taxes and expensive shipping

It depends for me. I've had good experiences with both; nothing damaged/incorrect has ever come from either. Only difference for me is that I have to pay tax on Amazon but not Newegg, so if that's a significant difference then I use Newegg. I have Prime, but I'm willing to wait the extra time for the Eggsaver (it's free too, just slower).

ebay no difficultly. ebay always beats retail price..... oh and no taxes.

 

And before you say something about getting ripped off or broken parts, no I've never encountered that problem in the thousands of $$$ I've spent on buying parts from people. Even used.

I personally prefer Newegg, but I've also bought a few things from Amazon too, and would again.  I don't have Prime or Premier.

 

If they're about the same price, I buy from Newegg.

If most of the parts are only available on Amazon (and aren't way overpriced, like I've seen with some older hardware on pcpartpicker), I buy from Amazon, usually.

 

As for sales tax, being in California, state law says I have to pay use tax if I don't pay sales tax, which is essentially the same rate under normal circumstances.  So, I pay sales tax to both Newegg AND Amazon.  I think it might be a little lower at Newegg than Amazon, but I don't remember.  I do know some places the tax rate is slightly different - Newegg is 7.5%, some places say 8% when I look them up, and the place I bought my laptop from I think was 9%.  Sometimes it depends on where I live, sometimes it depends on where the vendor is located.

If I buy from out of state, like B&H, Adorama, etc, I don't have to pay the tax up front, but I do have to pay come April 15.  I learned when doing my taxes this past April, though, that it might not exactly be 7.5 or 8%, sometimes depending on how you do it on your taxes, it could be like a flat rate depending on your income or something, like if you didn't buy any one item over $1,000, or maybe(?) total over like $5K or $10K or something, I don't remember.  I had bought about $1500 or so of stuff last year from a couple camera stores (no one item over $800), and only had to pay $2 in use tax.

 

As for site layout, search ability, etc ... Newegg is my preference, hands down.  Although, in non-computing categories, there are a lot of things that Amazon has that I haven't found at the egg.

I tend to buy from Newegg when it comes to computer parts.  I do however have both prime and premier and order regularly for both.  Have no complaints with either though.  Whenever I had a return both handled it pretty fast.  

 

Haven't had a defective item that was able to get a replacement from newegg since I was with premier but did when I was building a computer back in 2006 and they handled it fast.  Whenever I returned a headset I bought a few years ago when I was with premier they gave me no hassle.  With Amazon I've only had to replace one item, a monitor, and they cross shipped me a new one.  Only other place I was able to get a cross ship from was Monoprice.  

 

My advice is to go with whichever is cheaper for you.  Just make sure you are careful in reading on Amazon.  Doesn't matter much if you're buying a new item from Amazon, but when you buy from a user make sure you are careful.
