Nvidia GTX 10 Series, Who is it for?

It has been 1 month after the release of GTX 10 Series, but I still cannot get a hold on who is it really for? It got a beasty power of a Titan for half the price and Super power efficient you could almost say that the GTX 10 Series had Irresponsible performance compared to any other GPU. The MSRP of GTX 1080 and 1070 is $599 and $375, but in reality The founders edition is Cheaper than the MSRP which usually come with custom built fans and housing, and sometime PCB. At first glance a Price tag of $375 on the 1070 is totally cheap for the performance of a Titan, and it's also Budget gamer friendly, but in reality that never really happened, now the 1070 and the 1080 is more of a enthusiast GPU because of the Price and the performance, but I don't really know.

All depends on what you play and your priorities. If you want 1440 144hz gaming you're going to need it. If your tired of your pockets hurting your hips because of all that money they're trying to hold onto then you also qualify.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

The 10 series so far as I can tell at the moment is for enthusiasts. $300+ is more than what your average consumer is willing to pay.

but...is it?

i mean it's 2016 now and 400$ isn't that much if you want an epic gaming experience...of course not everyone can afford such a powerful card but for what it is i think the price is still fair honestly. I've seen a lot of people on the forum with GTX 1070/1080 and same for 980ti/Titan X. :)

You have to remember though that most people that use this forum are usually somewhat competent or serious gaming and set out for the best. I cant justify spending over $350 on a card because of the games I play and the resolution I play at in addition to how well most games perform these days anyway.

1080p 144hz, 1440p, or 4k gaming

as someone who now as a 1070, it's a very good performer at the price it's selling at. of course if you can find a 980ti that's cheaper it'll work just as well. but the 10 series are no slouches.

Once we have more details about the 1060s the 1070 and 1080 will mostly just be enthusiast or vr/4k customers

you defenetly want a GOOD gaming monitor with such cards honestly...you do not plug that into a 23'' 1080p 60hz TN panel or some shit like that...i would say it's meant for 1440p gaming...not 4K quite yet...overkill for 1080p for now (in 6 months though....new games coming out...more demanding stuff...1080p will be home on this next year...)

wait for benchmarks and consider the RX 480 which will be cheaper (you said you are tight on money) and should perform roughly the same. Or dont and buy the 1060 or whatever.

IMHO, 400$+ GPU should be paired with at least a 400$ monitor...ideally with Gsync...1440p...etc.

So yeah...it's defenetly for the serious gamers...or 1080p gamers that want a lot of ''future-proofing'' from this purchase of a new video card cause lets be honest those things at 1080p will last years of maxing out the graphics at 60FPS+

In that situation, i think buying a mid range GPU and selling it and then upgrading is a better strategy than buying a high end card and waiting 2 years+

i would tend to agree but some people rather buy more than what they need and not have to mess with the machine later on...i have a friend at work he is doing PC gaming and he had a GTX 770 with an i7-4770 and he upgraded to the GTX 1070 MSI gaming X and he is gaming on his 52'' 1080p TV but for him it's perfectly fine he had the money and he knows i told him for now it's overkill but it will last him a long time and he was fine with it and i think he made a good decision...so it depends.

What if the 1060 has poor performance or equal to the 480? The 480 is cheaper too.

you know son you have those casual gamers who play some games once in a while and doesnt even bother messing up with the graphics settings, overclocking or any of that shit...in fact most people are like that...they don't even bother updating the drivers so long as it works...and you have people like us who game many hours per day/week and wants the best gaming experience possible...serious gamers.

RX 480 benchmark looks pretty good, it's kinda on a tight fight with GTX 970, But Honestly I would go for 970 not becase it's Nvidia, but because it's more reliable and less prior to be failing.

Anyways I think the 10 series cards are good for a lot of things, it is target at the enthusiasts mostly the GTX 1080 though.

The 1070 and 1080 are better for 1440p gaming, and light 4K gaming and VR.
