Nvidia GTX 10 Series, Who is it for?

2 minutes ago, i_build_nanosuits said:

you know son you have those casual gamers who play some games once in a while and doesnt even bother messing up with the graphics settings, overclocking or any of that shit...in fact most people are like that...they don't even bother updating the drivers so long as it works...and you have people like us who game many hours per day/week and wants the best gaming experience possible...serious gamers.

That sad part is that you're serious and you actually believe what you just said is even remotely true.

You have no basis to make that claim........the RX 480 is brand new......and GPUs dont usually just fail.

as someone who now as a 1070, it's a very good performer at the price it's selling at. of course if you can find a 980ti that's cheaper it'll work just as well. but the 10 series are no slouches.

I believe the 10 Series are more fot 1440p unless you want to Blow your game at 1080p

Since the 1070s are nowhere dropping near the MSRP of 379, and aftermarket 1070s like the EVGA ones have an MSRP of 449 (lol).

I ended up grabbing a brand new 980ti FTW+ for 400 planning to overclock the shit out of it.

The 10 series are good but if you take a look at the bigger picture for value/money the 1070 really isn't. There is not much choice if you are going 1440p and beyond though.

exactly...casual gamers...i don't know what his problem is with me saying that honestly...obviously you have people that are really into pc gaming and don't mind spending more money on it and you have the other 95% of the people out there who just play games from time to time and for them so long as it works ''alright'' at default settings and it's not too ''laggy'' then for them it's perfectly fine.

EVGA lists the GTX 1070 ACX 3.0 (non-SC) for $420 that's not a bad price. Though the SC 1070 does cost $450 now. It was $440.

You have to remember though that most people that use this forum are usually somewhat competent or serious gaming and set out for the best. I cant justify spending over $350 on a card because of the games I play and the resolution I play at in addition to how well most games perform these days anyway.

most people dont spend more than $200 on a card. hell my dad freaked out when i bought a $150 GTX 950 last year. hes all like "honestly id just buy a cheap $30 video card and call it a day" and "$150 is almost enough to buy a new low end PC"

I barf when my 380 goes to 30fps in any game......its so noticable *cries* thankfully the Crimson 16.7.2 driver keep everything maxed at 60fps in the games I play about 90% of the time.

Heh i got tired of waiting lol, i was on http://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/nvidia/gtx1070/ for almost a week waiting for preorders to appear for that model but it never came.

A 980ti at 1400mhz will perform equal or better than a 1070 at 1900mhz because of poor scaling in Pascal i believe. So at this point it's a choice between the increased efficiency and relevance of the newer cards vs saving a little to grab a 980ti.

I am prepared to upgrade within 2 years though.. with the 1070 and 1080 being just the first cards of a new generation and Vega [16nm] just around the corner, i expect the new upcoming cards to have massive performance jumps obsoleting current generation cards very quickly, including the 1070 and 1080.

CPUs and RAM technology hardly scales at all nowadays though, you could swap out your GPU every couple years or so and your computer can still remain relevant for 4 years or so.

I'm doing a complete build at the moment because my current computer is starting to show signs of death.. and i believe it's the motherboard causing issues. I can't be bothered to replace a Z77 so skylake we go!

Yeah, when you take a step back from the hype and you realise that the 1070 is literally the first card of the 18nm generation for the next few years to come, buying one now at full price might not be a wise idea since the 1080ti, Titan P and 11xx line is sure to come following AMD's October Vega unveil - which if AMD is even trying, means their (insert name Vega480) has to be more powerful than a 1070 at an even more competitive pricing.

Lol, EVGA is only charging $40 more for their cooler. Anyways, once I get a job I'm saving for a build with an i5 6600K and RX 480 (and a few other things).  (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fvmjyf) That RX 480 is just a place holder though.

Yeah, I know the 980ti is pretty similar than a 1070.

Oh yeah? I'm on an A8 6410 it sometimes doesn't like to play TF2 too much I mean it can and it does it reasonably well but it's not like buttery smooth even turing the settings down from the ones it does based of the hardware... Wait that's a Beema mobile APU from 2013.

The 9 series gets way too much undeserved hate. Look at the 980ti, it trades blows with Nvidia's latest and greatest. The 970 trades blows with AMD's new wonder card. And Maxwell fucking overclocks. Meanwhile find someone who's gone over 2.2GHz on Pascal.

The ten series is cool, don't get me wrong. But Maxwell is still a valid opinion.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Based on reviews the 480 is a great solo card but it seems to scale terribly in CF for some reason, to the point where 2x 480 = 1070.

So if you are at 1080p now it's probably best to just grab the cheapest RX480 you can find, and get a new card for 1440p next year.

Which card will depend on the state of the market.. If Vega turns out to be a disappointment then we will continue getting fucked by Nvidia's high prices, at this point we can only hope Vega is like AMD's 7870/7950/7970 when they were released up against the 660/670/680. The cards were so powerful and cheap that it forced Nvidia to release a 660ti to fill in a new bracket and drop prices on the 670 in order to compete.  If the same thing happens then the 1070 and 1080 will likely have minor price cuts in the future
