Just got a EVGA X79 SLI, for $50. @Jumper118 @KingCry Should I go 3960X or 3930K?

there is a 3930k in my area for 250cad. i may scoop that up this week. I may have to flip the 2700k if anyone is interested.

 

picked up a 775 formula rampage last night. the ocz memory will run at 1250mhz cl5 on this board.

Question for you, any clue about why I can't bench at 4.65 doing open air but can bench that speed in a closed case environment?

maybe your case has super duper air flow

 

im assuming its hotter in the case than it is on a test bench.

The airflow in the case is average its only a Switch 810, but its so odd, I have a current Ambient of 18.9C and it just won't stay stable on a bench.

The vrms are getting heat soaked ? I had to have my desk fan turned at my case for my 5.0ghz runs .-.

highly doubt that is happening I always have 2 AF 120's Pulling air right over the VRM's when doing any sort of benching.

That's a good deal for a 3930K. I'm still surprised I got a X79 board for $50

The 5.2 ghz single core cinebench I did on air in a closed fractal r4. I have 2(140mm) intakes, the two noctua fans pushing air out to my 140mm outtake, and yeah that's all I have. A 4770k runs a lot hotter so you'll be more limited by that.

That still doesn't explain why in a COOLER enviroment my system can't bench the same speed and its not that much hotter either it only hit 83C at 1.55v

Well I went up to 1.4x V. Temps never surpassed 78c or something close kinda forgot. My room temp is around 22c so that probably helps a bit, plus my ceiling fan was on high.

That multiplier ratio is damn near perfect whatever you've done. Most hit 3.6 - 3.8 from what i've seen in screenshots.

It's the ratio between the single core and multi core test. If you have a quad core without hyper threading, in theory the multi core result should be four times higher than the single core result.

You need one of those spacers that come in the Z97 XPOWER, so you can go direct die.

Yeah 4.712GHz is really good for Haswell.

this is sadly not the full potential of my cpu , i have problems adjusting most of the voltages in my bios where they wont change or cause a boot loop. ive found that raising my cache frequency to a about equal of my multiplier it reduces instability. ram timing are thanks to jumper118's help

i boot into windows at stable settings to avoid bad post issues.

 

then tweak that extra little bit using intel xtu

 

if you have easytune installed, i suggest removing it

lol easy tune is so bad , i don't use xtu either , i just the hard buttons on mobo to get past my 4.9ghz wall and set my vcore to about 1.45 or so lol (nice and dangerous just the way i like it)   only way ive been able to get to this http://valid.x86.fr/tdiak5lol , cant do alot tho
