Is there anything OFFICIAL from Nvidia or is it all WCCF-tech type articles? Surely they would of mentioned that in the keynote where they launched the 1080?

Oh they do that. Y510P from Lenovo, Blade from Razer, G551/N551 from Asus, A few Alienwares from Dell, GE6/7 from MSI, Nitro/Aspires from Acer, Pavilions from HP and many others.

Pst, those are thin gaming laptops that you are talking about-the ones were portability is priority. Also, my friend's laptop is actually the MSI GE60 (http://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GE60-2PEi781B-Notebook-Review.117056.0.html), and at the clock speeds of the CPU+GPU and the fact that its a laptop-it did quite well to stay around 80oC and not thermal throttle at all.

Getting bored in college. I showed him the boost in performance my Pavilion DV6 3010AX had when I overclocked its HD5650 to 700MHz (up from 550MHz). I even got him to submit benchmarks on HWBOT, but since his laptop had Windows 8.1 they were removed.

Then I call double the bullshit. Nvidia vBIOS locks the 860M to a max OC of 1215 core. Anything more without a modded vBIOS IS. NOT. POSSIBLE.

Pst.....you do realise that while Nvidia supply the initial BIOS that its up to the vendor to tailor it to suit their product? Why do you think it is that you can't take a reference Nvidia bios and flash it for example to an aftermarkert GTX 650ti or GTX 970?

Actually, flashing is a thing, and you NEED a custom vBIOS for your claims

I know that flashing is a thing-I bricked my GTX 970 quite a few times trying to get the fans to stop spinning below 60oand disable turbo boost (pisses me off to no end as I know that its been responsible on a few occasions for driver crashes when my GTX 970 isn't overclocked). And that's not the case with the BIOS used for every single GTX 860M. At the very least its possible on the MSI GE60 with Intel XTU for locking the i7's turbo speed (which I still can't replicate on my 4790K on an Asus Z97 Sabertooth MKII-only ever done the 1 bios mod for my P5Q Deluxe's socket mod) and MSI afterburner for overclocking the GTX 860M.

Thing is - vendors don't give you vBIOSes that can brick your machine and an extreme OC can certainly kill a laptop in a number of ways. Overloading the adapter or the VRMs, killing it with heat, overvolting the VRAM, overvolting the core (CPU AND GPU) so no, you are wrong.

There never was an official statement, there were only articles like the ones from WCCF, which is funny because there are articles a month old that mention Asus showing 1080m, including WCCF article 2 weeks ago, but everyone seems to have missed them... somehow.

Easy - you backed my claim. The OC you showcase on that is from 924 MHz to 1,059 MHz. That means that the OC follows EXACTLY what I said. Drivers and Bios only allow 135MHz core OC. I see nothing useful in your posts besides trolling...

How is this disappointing? It's a 1080m. Ofc it's a cut down 1080. ITS A MOBILE CHIP. You bitch abut how it should be such a small improvement over the 980. Do you realize that this thing has a higher spec than a 1070?

Also, it took over a year for nvidia to come up with a way to shove a full desktop chip into a laptop. Why do you expect them to have the same ready for the new chip so close to launch? Be happy that they didn't gimp it more.

1 - There were countless articles as to how we would get a highly binned full 1080 in laptops
2 - the increased TDP and transistor density for a laptop means more heat and thus more noise. What this release will bring is larger and bulkier notebooks - a regress.
3 - the actual core count is the same as a 980M/980 making the cut-down even more odd.
4 - 1070 runs at MUCH higher clockspeeds and would thus be faster
5 - Pascal scales poorly with clockspeed and as a result it NEEDS more than 1500MHz to beat a 980 in a laptop
6 - Prices will be jacked up due to the low yields.
