Asus ROG Geforce GTX 1070 Strix OC to 2Ghz on Air !

Original link:

The German Website  "PC Games Hardware" was testing the new GTX 1070 from Asus.  Asus ROG Geforce GTX 1070 Strix OC is a great overclocker and they were able to get on the core an oc of 2Ghz! (on the Strix cooler)

I think from a base clock of 1.658MHz up to 2.012 MHz is really impressive. The card had a power consumption of max 196W and was only running at 45% fan speed and managed to stay cool at about 63° C.

Here is a chart with power consumption and noise.

Here some benchmarks.

After this article, I think, I will go for the GTX 1070. If you can OC it that hard its a really nice value FPS/$.

What do you guys think ?

Was this info new for you or did you already know.

have a nice day

Not that impressive after looking at the results it got in the benchmarks, i expected at least GTX 1080 performance for 2ghz...

How come, in the second image, an OC of around ~350 Mhz gives the 1070 a boost from 70 -> 75 FPS, and then the next OC of only another 88 Mhz gives it a further boost, from 77 -> 85 FPS? That last 88 Mhz gives more of a boost than the ~350 Mhz before it.

Well they say that to beat the 1080 it would need a base clock of at least 2,3Ghz and memory at about 15% more

What is this generic "GTX 1070 @2,100Mhz" beating it out :o

I think its a watercoold card. they didn't say anything about it.

You need to remember... They aren't increasing the clock from 1685 to 2000.

The boost clock out of the box will be like ~1750-1800, so they're only putting about 200 mhz extra on, not the 400 like you thought :P

Proof please. I can't overclock my 290 to be a 290X :P The 480 and the 580 were the same chip.

Out of all the ugly GTX 10xx out there EVGA so far is the only one that I can barely consider to put into my case. What the hell happened this year with GPU cooling and designs? Unless in reality they look better than on paper I am puzzled what to put into my case this time.

I have the same feel. I think I will buy an EVGA Hydro or so. the Strix does not look to bad, but it is soooo damn long.

Also, how are you supposed to get a card with 2304 CUDA cores (780) to match a card with 2880 CUDA cores (780Ti)? The raw performance will be different no matter how much you overclock. FYI I have the trix 290

As i said learn to OC, you said a 290 can't OC to beat a 290x LOL, a 290 will murder a 290x witgh a good OC, much like the 480 and 580, all have core deficiencies.

Agree on that. Strix is borderline ok but the length is unnecessary. Fingers crossed there will be some EVGA or ASUS ROG variant that will look real deal and won't be breaking the bank.

My 290 can reach 1148/1412 at the max and even then it gets 2200~ in benchmarks like uniting valley. Compared to an overclocked 290X that gets 2300+...

Because the 290x is OC'd.. who here said you could match a faster GPU at it's OC'd speeds? i said i'm not impressed with 1070 as even at 2ghz it loses to it's bigger brother stock clocks.

I have a 780 OC DCUII and I can not get near the performance of a 780ti. and its so stupid to say, hey you cam close to a 780ti. if I had a 780ti I would oc it too !

Because who wouldn't OC their high end GPU? And yes, I noticed. 1920 CUDA cores vs. 2560. That gives a rather large difference in raw performance. (That's 6.4~ tFlops vs. 8.8~ tFlops)
