Productivity CPU Needed

I am looking to biuld a cheap PC (around 600) to use for autodesk inventor/CAD and i am not sure if i should get an Intel i5 or AMD FX cpu. The AMD has more cores and higher clock speeds and i know that doesn't necessairly mean its better than an i5, but i'm not sure what is the best value for. What can someone with a lot of experience tell me?

With intel cpus they are pretty durable, used motherboards can have bent pins though, though with amd the pins are on the cpu, but easy to bend back.

There are plenty of reputable sellers on ebay just make sure they accept returns, and have sold a bit of items.

i have seen more than one person get a fake CPU

of course returns are always an option, unless the seller rejects the claim like scammers usually do and you're stuck with no money and a pentium 1

Personally id go for a used 3770k and motherboard, try craigslist and get them to show u it works.

Otherwise id get an i5 and overclock it, ive used a 4670k for autodesk and it runs very well. It ran worse on the FX 8350.

Not everyone on ebay is there to scam people many people including myself have bought plenty of cpus and other computer parts off of ebay and have had no issues, and paypal does does handle those claims and sides with the buyer almost every time.

I just re-read your OP. Not quite sure a Dual Core HT CPU would be good enough for what you need. I was going to suggest an i3 6100. But I'm not exactly sure how demanding the stuff you're going to do.

I am with everyone against Ebay, the only hardware wise thing Ebay is good for is second hand or refurbished laptops for general use or pre builts NEW systems where the buyer really isn't qualified or does not want to bother looking around. Only lazy buyers who wholly trust the system use Ebay as the go to site for computing gear.

Don't bother opening this spoiler if you don't like walls of text.

Spoiler

I generally just refuse to buy anything important with money from Ebay, and who ever said Craigslist .. well you are in this same boat with this Ebay dude.

Craigs list is almost as shady if not more shady than Ebay not that I ever used Craigslist ever but the things I hear on the internet and the sorts of goings on that happen with Craigslist users not all hardware based auctions or sales is just insane, did you know Craigslist offers escorts :/ and you want to trust a place like that, on that matter Facebook is in the same boat as the above.

Granted there are time it is necessary to source such lowly turf for parts or replacements usually things like batteries for laptops but to recommend them to someone looking for used working hardware eh there a few better options depending where you live in the world.

Personally my first point of call is the OCAU forums (Australian Overclockers Forums) because I am Australian and anybody who is anybody buisness wise or otherwise and in the IT scene shows up from time and they have a really strict seller policy and buyer policy where lengths are taken to protect both and people get held accountable they have a sales rep system as well to help source sellers and buyers with a good trade history.

In my experiences its extremely unlikely you will get a defective product new or used from the guys over there, I sold my last GPU there and the dude even let me keep in installed in my system for a few extra days until the replacement arrived...

I have my reasons for not trusting Ebay and Craigslist Ebay is well known to me have used it since the dawn of its existence or know people who have and how many shady or scam trades even my own parents have had a tough time to deal with at times, granted its a lot safer now but only if you pay with PayPal and not direct debits or credit or anything like that.. otherwise your stuck waiting for your cash back when you could have done a little bit more reading and got a working product for probably the same cost or less packaged exceptionally well if not overkill protected who emails you to find out if you got it and if it was in working order and for your needs.

You don't get that level of care over on mass seller and abused sites like Craigslist and Ebay.

My advice if buying used to the OP

Don't trust Ebay or Craigslist for anything if you don't plan on paying with PayPal, Use a secure trusted enthusiast forum with stricter policies that won't tolerate low balls and exaggerated sale prices, care about how things are packaged and shipped with literally hundreds of users who generally will come to your aid if a seller is trying to scam and call them out on thier BS, oh did I mention most of these forums enforce PayPal or GTFO transfer policy.

I also from time to time use Autodesk products and have some use with the products in question I can assure you that for $600 if you need the work done fast it won't happen.. at least not buying everything brand new, you will definitely need to source and older generation socket maybe take a look at the 2011 platform and source someone with a recent GPU say anything from AMD R9 Series preferable the 290x can pick one up used for under 200 especially if you act now while everyone is rushing about selling cards to upgrade to the bleeding edge which is always the case trust me ;) Alternatively look for Nvidia 980 also try for under $200.

You may in some cases due to the 2011 platform being a tad dated now but still very well functional find a seller offering a board and the extreme edition cpu so that will be a 6 core i7 unlocked for a price around 380 total, it really depends who the person is and reason for sale. Failing that you will have to look for newer generation hardware 1151 pre owned i5's will be fine so you main budget here is going to have to go on the absolute best compute GPU you can afford.
