haha, honestly, its not just the $1 things i kinda hate, its the ones that put a sale for $50, but for some odd reason, their normal price is like $60 above all local competitors.   can't find them now, but they are around.

I can see how SuperBiiz thinks:

CEO: Oh we have the new GTX 1080 in stock, so we should sell it real quick. We have to drop the price of 699$. What should we drop it to?

Worker: Lets bring it down to 698$!

CEO: Brilliant idea! Lets bring that awesome discount!

I guess it all depends on the profit margins they are trying to maintain. That dollar might be the difference between a sale vs losing a sale to competitors. That said, that 1080 is going to sell anyway so it does seem silly!

we have a GTX 1080,  lets sell it for 799.99 and then discount it down to 699.99 to match our competition, people will think they are getting a sick deal because we are telling them they are saving a hundred bucks

Yea this 100% is my issue with Massdrop...

Prices aren't good (compared to standard US deals), and shipping is so insanely awful.

Sometimes these things are just stupid computer moments.  Other times it is to get it to the top of search results.

On some of my house listings I will reduce the price 100 bucks every week.  Sometimes only 10 bucks.   This keeps it visible.    Does 10 or even 100 matter on a $330,000 house?   Nope.  But it still shows up as a price decrease.

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

One time I had this project for Physics where we had to make a boat out of cardboard (don't ask me how it relates to physics) so we went to Home Depot to get some cardboard. Well I had already gotten all of their scrap cardboard and we needed a lot more so our only option was to actually buy some of the large boxes. Well I looked behind the shelf and there was some boxes that were slightly damaged, so I asked the associate if I could get a discount on those ones (since my friends didn't have the balls to ask). He said and I went to the cashier, where I had to wait on a manager, only to get a 150% discount on one $3 box (as all of the other ones were fine). GG me, you saved $1.50.

$800 vs $700? What are you getting at? That is $100. But charging $800 is probably overpricing it, though it could deal with supply and demand.

Just sold my parents house.  At the time Asking Price was $328,990.  I had dropped it 10 dollars the day before.  That refreshed it on a lot of pages, the people saw it, did one showing and then wrote an offer.  So it is effective at times, as long as you don't overdo it.   Same with these penny sales.   A lot of people don't even look at the "was" price.  They just see it is on sale.

I think you missed the point.  The point was everyone else is simply selling at $699.99, but then you have someone who says regular price is $799.99, but it's "on sale" for $699.99.

This is simply Marketing 101...   Make the consumer feel like they are getting a deal.

generally those are not "sales" or anything, - they are ways to get your shop listed at the top of the price comparison websites and if people filter google shopping by like price etc

they are not really trying to make out that it is some sort of sale, but they have to advertise the $1 price drop, since that is not the normal price
