Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti Rumors

The 1080 can barely do 4k on maxed setting, have you seen some of the benchmarks? It's still not capable of doing 60fps 4k.

You don't have to always play at maxed settings though...so yes, it can perform fine at 4k.

I currently have a 780 Ti in my build, I was planning on upgrading to the 980 Ti, but I discovered the 1080 Ti should be coming out in a year. I am going to do 4k gaming without a doubt. my budget is $650 on the GPU, do you guys think the 1080 Ti will be really expensive? Or if it will handle 4k? I want to hear your ideas on this card.

the normal 1080 can handle 4k and you can get it around $650 and the 1080ti should do 4k better but with a higher cost

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

then wait for the 1080ti if you want to play on maxed settings at 4k but i think the 1080ti would be more expensive

I don't mind waiting one more year, my 780 Ti is standing tall :)

would you say playing at 4k with lowered settings would be better then 1080p maxed settings because of more pixels?

See, thats my dilemma. I can't decided over 4k or 1440. I think 1440 would make more sense. But, within next year, 4k should be more reasonable. That's why I can't decided on a GPU.

unless you use unnecessary amounts of AA and other things that make 0 difference, it can get 60fps in every game at 4k

polaris is going to be mid/low end

there is no way you will run ultra 4k unless you consider crappy CFX an "option"

I really hope your right, I think the benchmarks YouTubers do are way to maxed out. Plus, I do plan on running SLI. Which should improve FPS.

Well their low end cards are being released right now. Vega (which is a chip that uses the Polaris architecture) will be released later this year, and it's the one with more meat on it's bones.

polaris =/= vega

he said polaris

which is mid/low end

vega is not called "polaris" just like a kepler is not called maxwell

I thought Vega was just the codename for the chip? It's still Polaris based isn't it?

Not according to Nvidia, its on their release charts as a separate architecture in 2018.

polaris is one thing vega is another

they will both be 14nm though

maxwell is one thing, and kepler is another

they were both 28nm

I don't necessarily know if we can just assume there will be a GTX 1080 Ti. We got the 980 Ti because AMD was trying to position the Fury X as a direct alternative to the $1000 Titan X. Nvidia wants to sell Titans for as long as the competitive environment lets them.

I am expecting to see the TI come in just a bit above the pricing of the 980TI was it launched.  You have to remember, there will be a new Titan coming.  They aren't going to price the TI so close to the Titan.  I can't find the article or thread, but there was a leak of the Nvidia roadmap for big Pascal and it showed the TI and the Titan scheduled for an October/November timeframe.  I suspect it will be plus or minus weeks just to see how the Vega chips do and how they will compete with Nvidias current offering.
