Why isnt a AMD 8350 better than a i76700k?

This is probably a dumb question and been asked quite a bit before, but why would a AMD not be better than a i76700k? I'm asking this out of complete curiosity.

 

If you look at the specs, a AMD 8350 has the same clock speed as a i76700k but a 8 whole cores compared to the i7's 4. 

 

So why does the AMD 8350 not perform as well as the I7?

 

I actually personally own a i76700k and am quite happy with it, but i'm still generally curious, could this have something to do with how much cache each processor has or just something in build quality?

14nm vs 32nm. The 8350 is simply older tech. It's the same reason the 2600K is not as good as the 6700K

GHz is not an accurate way of comparing different architectures.

It's not about quality really, it's about micro architecture.

 

The skylake x86 micro architecture is more efficient and has newer more powerful instruction set capabilities (translates to new micro architecture implementations).

 

The i7 is capable of far more instructions per clock cycle.  CPU speed can only help but so much in this regard.  Think of it like gearing in a transmission.  A car with more horsepower can use shorter gears (less GHz) to get the same work done as a car with less horsepower but taller gearing (more GHz).

 

That's probably confusing too though : )

The clock speed only tells you how many cycles it can do in a second, not how much it can do work in each cycle.

not really no.

 

even the 32nm Sandy Bridge processors beat the 8350 at the same clockspeed (8350 @4.5ghz gets 725cb and 2700k @4.5ghz gets 800) 

It all comes down to ipc

Not to be mean but are you mental? you are comparing a cpu from late 2012 to a cpu from Q3 2015. How did you think it was going to be?

The intel CPU's are better in single core performance and well newer.

intel is on 14nm

IPC has nothing to do with process node - it's not about who has more transistors, it's about how you use them

That answer does not help one bit you need to say the full thing "instructions per clock" also more programs are now using 8-threads which make the FX do great but not better than the overpriced i7-6700K... :P
