What is the main thing you look for when buying a new component?

VFM, definetely (value for your money), one of the reasons I never pick Nvidia GPUs.

Aesthetics is a close second though, I'd classify Noise as part of Aesthetics (a nice hum is preferable over a nasty one)

Depends on the component, GPU normally the most powerful one I can afford, case the most attractive and compact, everything else I lean towards value for money with varying degrees of success.

Impossible to say one is more important than others, as they will all factor in some time, and it depends on the specific build intent. Overall, I'll give the nod to efficiency since my house is thermally limited.

because my wallet is almost constantly empty its always preformance per $ spent, i have never given the slightest care for how things look as long as they preform well tbh, thats the main reson i havent gotten a new case and color cordinated everything with LEDs and stuff  oh and money, i cant afford stuff to look good lol

For other things besides tech I look at consumer reviews first but in cases regarding specs trusted tech reviewers are more helpful.

personally i have never cared much about effiency or power consumption. I have an overkill powersupply for precisly that reason, and i would rather get a little more power than less energy consumption. Price/perfomance is important as well, but i still try to find the balance between price/performance and power.

How many FPS I can get for my dollar. That's what I look for when looking for main components (GPU/CPU.) For storage? Mostly GB/$, in SSD's I look for quality drives instead of just low cost. For other stuff (case, fans, ect?) High quality, good looking components. I have a high-airflow case, nice fans, a decent CPU cooler (to be upgraded,) and a nice power supply.

It's a combination of

 

brand

aesthetics

price to performance.

 

For example, I will pay more for a more expensive Sennheiser headset over a Turtle Beach because I know Sennheiser is a brand of quality and great customer service. However, there is only so much more I will pay for a Sennheiser if an Audio Technica sounds nearly as good for less money. 

 

I realize headsets aren't computer components but that's how my general electronic buying process is.
