The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

I wasn't wrong. It's extremely rare that I am. I provided sources as well. Different devs can disagree. Further, we now have confirmed discrepancy from Twitter about he use of the pre-release 1080 driver in AMD's demo despite the release 1080 driver having been out a week prior.

You apparently haven't seen his responses to questions on YouTube. He is very condescending and aggressive in his comments with which there is little justification. He acts totally different in his videos. I don't necessarily care for this content style and there is nothing really unique about him or his channel. His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

In Europe you still have to fill in declaration for sending any parcels over 3kg and/or gifts in value 100+ euros. You can either pay the taxes pre-sending, or the recipient will have to go and take their gift from the customs, after paying the fee.

They just tell the shop it is a gift for their son??? They carry it on the plane as hand luggage and declare it as a gift in England, no one knows that its not a gift except for me and them.

In England you can bring back a gift of upto £1000 in value tax free. Anymore and you have to prove its a gift but below £1000 and its free. They cannot tax you on a gift.

I still think they'll ask if the package is sent by an internet store, not by a private person. In Finland they might call you in even for 30 euros worth a package, especially if it's something electronic and/or sent by an internet store. It's more to do with "Is this product approved for safe use", than it is to do with taxation.

You misunderstand, my parents are going to new York so it won't be sent by package at all, they'll be carrying it onto the plane with them in their luggage. Last time they went they got me some USA exclusive Nike Airs that you can't buy here in England, intact every time they go to America they bring me something back with them.

The difference is this time I'll give them the cash to buy it with.

Good for you, and I sincerely hope the card won't get damaged after being radiated at the security checkpoint, as you won't be getting warranty for in in the UK. Your parents might still have to explain why they have a computer component in their hand luggage, especially with the ridiculously strict measures at airports regarding electronics. Airport people don't really care about gifts or not, all they want is proof and a simple explanation to go with it.

Yes we have to pay both VAT, duty and probably some handling fee. The amount differs depending on the country.

In Denmark there is no duty on computer parts, but 25 % VAT and 160 DKK (~24 $) in handling fee.

So it can be viable, but personally I would not import it from the states, since warranty is going to be an issue if the card is faulty. Here in Denmark  the warranty period is at least 2 years. But if people want to take the risk you can save a bit of money. (Too lazy to do the math though :P )

Oh, thats pretty interesting. I did not think about the warranty issue. thats too bad, I would totally be down to do this

Warranties are not only fixed to the country you buy the item from. They usually go together with the receipt from the retailer where you bought it, and unless it's an officially licensed one, the manufacturer has the right to refuse handling for more complicated issues (usually a problem for smaller stores). In the USA, warranty and return policies are extremely liberal, while in Europe returns are nearly impossible.

The usual people to get burned by warranties are exactly those who buy/import electronics to avoid paying the full price/VATs. There are always the unlucky ones to receive a dead or broken item, and the only thing they can do is to either pay full price for a new one, pay nearly as much in handling fees and shipping for repair, or start hating on the company and switch to the more affordable in pricing competitor.

This election year is off to a good start for the DA but before this turns into a thread about how bad the SA government really is on the topic of the GTX 1080 although the price is really really steep I'll wait a few months after launch until prices dip and then I'll MAYBE buy one because I prefer single GPU setups over SLI but that's still a long shot.

Just for a bit of comparison. This is the only tentative GTX 1080 price I could find for New Zealand...

Computer shit here in NZ is fucking expensive...

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition HDMI 3xDP 8GB
http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3692646
$1,657.76 NZD

And the price of a nice 980Ti in NZ as a comparison...

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti Strix Gaming DirectCU III OC HDMI 3xDP 6GB

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3203292
$1,149.00 NZD
