Why does the price tag suck?

It's cheaper than the 980 ti launched for, and only 50$ more than the 980 launched for, and it's "supposed" to be substantially faster.

The price tag, as it stands, is the only possible complaint people could have about the GTX 1080. It's more expensive than you can get a GTX 980 Ti for - you can find some 980 Ti's for under $550 USD (though those are fairly rare). The point being, that was the same argument people used when AMD launched the 390x, it was a bit faster then a 290x, but was more expensive. Obviously, the 1080 is more improved, since it's significantly smaller, and most likely has a much lower power draw.

Reviewers have them. Have you watched any YouTube recently?

JayzTwoCents has a 1080

PaulsHardware has a 1080

Awesomesauce Network has a 1080

LinusTechTips has a 1080

HardwareCanucks has a 1080

I'm sure there's more. They have the product, they're just not allowed to say anything about them yet other than "I have a GTX 1080." nVidia has really, really hyped up this release- you think they wouldn't give review samples to Tech YouTubers prior to launch?

Erm... I can't believe I have to mention this to both you at @Prysin... but until they RELEASE their reviews, it literally doesn't matter that they have one - since, unless they've shared the results with just you and not everyone else?

JayZTwoCents, HWC, probably Linus too, has a 1080. The embargo lifts at the 18 or 20th? i think. So they are already haulin ass to bench all the hardware.

Sure, of course they are hauling ass on benchmarks. But since those benchmarks are not public knowledge yet, we have to wait until the benchmarks are released.

When I said "reviewers have the cards in hand", I was indicating that benchmarks had been completed and released to the public.

I kinda figured that AMD is doing fine, and that Polaris was going to be on time.

I guess it took AMD to actually say that Polaris is going to be on time and that they're still financially okay right now for maybe more people to believe that either of those things are true.

Here comes the same situation where the 290X just managed to beat the original titan and beat the 780 quite nicely but instead, the 490x beats the 1080...that will be absolutely awesome :D (while still maintaining that cheaper price point...)

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

That'd be a nice thing for a change, but given their track record they'll use it on a stupid, pointless APU.

Though I hope I'm wrong and they turn things around with Zen.

well if this "oh but we must use less power no matter what" bullshit is going to continue, and according to Intel who has stated that newer CPUs may have to sacrifice performance for efficiency, then APUs are looking like the only thing we will be left with.

not happening.

I dont see AMD beating Nvidia on the top end on actual performance. Price to performance -> sure, that is possible. But Nvidia has more money to throw at their projects. AMD cannot afford releasing huge 600mm2 DIEs, because the yields are usually terrible. They NEED to cut costs, so they must sell many, cheaper chips. Nvidia can risk shitty yields given their market share and revenue.

To be fair, that's speculation. AMD has the technical ability to engineer at 600mm2 chip, and their contracted foundries (GloFo and TSMC) can definitely create chips that size.

I actually have no doubt that the top end VEGA chip is going to be ~600mm2. Either that, or they will pioneer some sort of on-die multi GPU Chip solution that works with both DX11 and DX12 as "one" GPU.

current rumors and loose hints coming from Raja Kodouri and others hint towards AMD going for multiple GPUs on a single DIE. Most likely a MCM style design, similar to what has been seen in Xeons and Opterons.

Hey, that's pretty good.

I don't know where i heard Fury cards didn't overclock well, i think it was only when they first came out.

Eh...Ill throw these guys into the loop...
@ivan134, @Pohernori

From what I know, the *updated* Sapphire Ntro TriXX uses a custom PCB, and binned GPUs (?).

Aside from the Nitro, only the more recent ASUS StriX R9-Fury's uses a custom PCB design as well. Everything else (Gigabyte, XFX, MSi, etc) is reference PCB.

I did a quick a dirty overclock on my Sapphire Ntro R9-Fury about a month or so back, and I was able to get 1125 MHz without any problems -- and this is with NO voltage increase. I moved the Power Limit to +25% for the sake of it, but I may have just left it at 0%.

The card at stock already rips through everything I have so far (e.g. BF4 and Rainbow Six: Siege, and I didn't have any problems in the DooM Beta), but I will probably play around with it again sometime this month, and find out what the maximum stable overclocks are for the Core and Memory...

Granted, I should have been clearer, and will do so in the future. But in my defence, it should have been obvious what I meant.

Slick might have his hands on a GTX 1080. He might have those benchmarks and specs. But we do not. Until they actually release those details (after said embargo ends), then it near enough makes no difference to them not having the card at all. That was my point - not arguing over semantics of the English language.

Meant to put a " :P " after my message, it was just for fun. lol.

But yes, I agree. The embargo sucks, they've had these GPU's for weeks and could only test among themselves.

I just want to know how powerful the 1070 is! We know the 1080 is gonna beat a Titan X, but I can't afford a $600 1080 and a $600 Rift to play VR games. I want to know whether I should get Polaris 10 or the 1070, since Polaris 10 is supposed to be cheaper.

I figure if the rumours are all correct, Polaris 10 full fat (Let's call it 480x) will likely come in really close to the 1060 or 1070, and we'll have to wait for Vega until AMD releases their true 1080 competitor.
