Personal opinion:

If I'm going to read text, it better be in an black typeface. I don't plan on reading any books with black pages and white text anytime soon. Just saying. Same goes for websites, not just LTT.

 

Ergonomically, it just doesn't make sense.

it does

 

there is a difference between light being provided by a screen backlight and light reflecting off of a material like paper

 

its also healthier for your eyes to look at a screen with low contrast to the surrounding brightness (scientifically proven)

so if youre in bright daylight, a white screen is better

if youre indoors in a room or in a dark place, a black screen is better

I always have ambient lighting when using my computer. So for me, white background + black text just works. I usually stay away from screen time at night. But what you said makes sense if you're in a dark environment.

 

But that in itself also has an issue, because it's also been scientifically proven that light emitted from screens at night has an impact on people's ability to fall asleep.

I can't stand the bright background. It's torture on my eyes.

 

I changed YouTube over to a dark theme as well. That place was almost worse, since you can spend so much time there without thinking.

but i get enough sleep anyway, and being productive for several more hours is more important than having 7 hours of sleep instead of 8

I use day theme, since my monitors are flicker free and my glasses have an additional coating that filters out a small amount of blue light, just enough to negate what is produced by computer monitors, so the white doesn't affect me. Plus, no matter the device, I always have other ambient lighting (especially in my study) when I'm working.
