A good way to lose weight. Fast.

Absolutely agree, but "drink a lot of water" and "cut out junkfood" is solid advice regardless.

Which is the first thing a doctor will tell you. What matters the most is what he/she tells you after that :P

Generally speaking, asking complete strangers on the Internet is never a good way to get accurate medical information.

I have a personal interest in science of all kinds and all the reputable sources say the exact same thing: if you have a health problem (and excess fat is) ask your doctor.

There are a few places where you can get accurate, science-based information, but these are meant to be a starting point, not an end.

I suggest you take a look at Mayo Clinic's suggestions, but have a qualified medical professional follow you through your weight loss path.

If you spend enough time researching you can do it on your own, of course only use reputable sources, do NOT follow any diet that says that you are gonna lose <insert number> Kg in <insert number> days, those fast weight loss diets are useless, you will lose mainly water and muscles and you will regain them back as soon as you quit.

You need to get in your mind that eating healty is something that you will need to do forever not just for a couple of months and then go back to eating like you did before.

So I'll give you a couple of tips (I lost 40Kg so I know something about weight loss but of course I'm not an expert and definitely not a doctor):

  • Stay active, at least get 30min of walk a day, if you can do more then do it but don't over do it.
  • If you want to lose weight you NEED to be in a caloric deficit, you don't need an extreme cut 200-350Kcal less than your maintainance are probably enough.
  • If you want to gain weight same thing as above but with a caloric surplus.
  • Do NOT eliminate anything completely from your diet, that includes carbs and sugars too (which your body will need).
  • Once a week there's nothing wrong about going out with your friends to eat/drink something, don't get obsessed by your diet.
  • Try to count your calories and watch your macros, at least at the beginning so you will get an idea about what you eat and how you can improve.
  • Give a try at "MyFitnessPal" it's a great app and it will help you out.
  • And then I have to repeat again... stay active!

the number 1 is eat healthy, you dont evne have to exercise you just need to eat health, count calories and dont drink pop, stay away from sugar too. if you exercise you might find yourself gaining weight and that is becase muscle weighs more than fat so youll gain some some muscle so don't worry about you gaining weight if you do choose to exercise (other than like cardio that doesn't really build muscle)

and it will take about 8 months to make very noticeable changes. at first from cutting out bad food you will lose A LOT the first few weeks but then after that your body will be used to the change and start losing weight slower. just dont give up and push yourself.

my mom lost 20 pounds her first 2 weeks then after that it was about 5 pounds every week for a while then a few later weeks she lost about 3 pounds a week.

and i forgot portion size matters. if you eat too many vegetables well thats not good either.

Nope eating nutritious diet will only take you so far if your not using it

Like with nothing you can excersize and you lose less and less weight evey week, my dad just stopped drinking pop and lost 20 pounds while keeping everything else the same. Eating right is the biggest part of losing weight and keeping it off, you can exercise but if you still eat a whole cake a day and other junk food you will stay fat

I just have to bring up this what I posted earlier:

There is this great formula you learn in chemical engineering called the mass and energy balance.  I'll explain, since it can be very useful:

in - out + generation - consumption = accumulation

You don't output any food/energy, nor do you generate any, so this simplifies in this case:

in - consumption = accumulation

The body can do some weird things with metabolism, etc, but it can't escape physics, and this is your ace in the hole.  If you can make that accumulation term negative, by some combination of eating less and exercising more, you will win :) good luck!

I stand by it.  Any way you make that term negative, you will lost weight.  This can mean eating a ton and just exercising like a mad man, or not exercising at all and just eating very little, or anything else in between or different that also works.  Obviously there are good ways and bad ways to go about this - you don't want to lose weight by just not eating enough, but I promise you that - healthy or not - it will work. It's just physics.  The body needs a certain amount of energy every day, and while it can do some pretty amazing things in the way of adjusting your metabolism, it can't shut down completely, so (for example) if you assume you body uses 1000 calories a day, and you do another 500 of exercise, and only eat 1000, you're 500 down.  No way around that ;)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Battle with weight is fought and won in the kitchen not in the gym. During last 12 weeks I lost 15kg(33 lbs) as you can see in the picture below and here is what I did:

Cut all the sugars, sodas, energy drinks, sweets, cakes and cupcakes, processed food, fast food, ketchup, pastas, white bread, all kinds of sauces, oils/butters full of saturated fats.

What's left to eat? Well a lot! Low fat beef, chicken breasts, eggs, fish, vegetables, oats, brown rice(because your body, especially brain, need carbs), fruits.  And no it doesn't cost more to eat healthy, in fact I found that my monthly spending for food decreased. It's mostly due to the fact that I used to pick up a lot of sodas, energy drinks, sweets and cupcakes on the go.

Also you don't even have to be good at cooking, just get one of those multicooker pots. They are simply amazing, you put meat, vegies, 2-3 teaspoons of olive oil, spices in there and it cooks for you with hardly any effort required. Furthermore start making more vegetable soups. It's literally impossible to fail: few sweet potatoes, some frozen vegetables, some salt and spices and some beef meatballs. Leave it to boil for 40-50min and you have an amazing, cheap, healthy soup for whole day. I usually eat nothing but tuna and soups during weekends.

I remember sleeping a fuckton made one of my relatives loose weight. I guess it was because he was asleep most meals and didn't eat anything resulting in his weight loss. This is just a silly trivia thing, I wouldn't suggest it for loosing weight for obvious reasons.

Don't cut down on everything too much, it's bad. Reduce it, not eliminate it. It's alright to even still eat candies and stuff, because if you quit them outright then you're more likely to be affected more negatively from eating it.

Also exercise, or find something fun to do outside (even going for a walk or something). I remember I had an overweight friend (not like obese or anything) and we literally just walked around the city and did fun shit together with a group of other friends every other day. He never changed his eating habits or anything, and he's in way better shape now. We never liked going to gyms or playing/signing up for sports, the only real thing we did was play some airsoft and paintball scrims out in the country. Keep in mind though when we were walking we didn't just walk around a block, we would do long walks that lasted us an hour or two.

  • Don't snack
  • Eat smaller portions at meal times
  • Eat less pre-prepared food (It usually has higher fat and salt)
  • Excercise lots (I usually walk about 10 mi a day and I live in the city)
  • Go to the gym (I go twice a week, Thursdays and Saturdays)
  • Less Alcohol (oh my, the amount of sugar in cocktails)

Okey, rule one a diet does not work atleast for me.

I found out that I always skipped breakfast and If I did I would take a cookie or snickers, something sweet. (sugur-rush).

Eat loads of bread every day and double portions.

Went 180 on eating habbit, now I eat a healthy breakfast (no sugar except for fruit) and you got to have a sport (no but, but but...)

I took mountainbiking a try and that works fine for me.

I was a guy with a weight of almost 100 kg and now I weight about 70 kg.

Also doing diets you will receive amouts of lose skin,

your fat tissue should be

1. be burned by doing movement (work, excersize etc.)

2. Or trained to mass (fitness)

excuse my english.

Oh, and no beer, drink whiskey. *hic*

it does work, just do it everyday consistently, i myself lost 38 kilos in the past 10 months, it takes patience, sometimes a month will pass and i wont lose a single kilo, its frustrating, but you need to stick with it.

keep in kind with exercise you HAVE to start slow, otherwise you will only suffer from it more or lose motivation, if you over-do it in 1 session next day your body will be cramped up and you wont be able to exercise, slowly but surely you'll get more in shape.

i myself started off climbing my building stairs (15 stories) twice in 1 session, it was hard, but i did it because it was comfortable, 2 weeks after i started doing power walks, which was annoying af, cause i'd get muscle pain as soon as i'd start, it was like that for 2 months, i almost dropped exercising, but i sticked with it. now i run 5-6 kilometers 3 times a week and the other 3 times im weight lifting and boxing (i rest 1 day a week). so consistency is key, but dont over-do it in your first 1-2 months. also having friends who can train you or go running with you is a big plus, that surely helped me a lot and it still does.

honestly i dont really keep track on what i eat that much, but i just eat less, and its fine, but i dont eat fast food at all, except for pizza or shawarma once in 2-3 weeks.

i currently weigh 104 kilos, i used to weigh 142 kilos.

There are plenty of healthy snacks you can use if you do get hungry between meals such as nuts and fruits as long as you don't go overboard.  But the only way to lose weight is to exercise and eat right.  If you're willing to put enough effort into exercising you can eat more, so just remember that.  For example I to police academy at 145lbs and 18% body fat barely able to run 1.5 miles.  When I got out I could run 10 miles and weighed 146lbs but was 8% body fat.  I exercised everyday except Sunday.  This included running every other day and adding an extra few miles on Sunday and the days I didn't run I would be hitting the weight room or doing circuit training.  I didn't give up sodas then and ate whatever I wanted.  Of course this was when I was 22.  When I was 29 I did a lot of cardio and was able to go from 175 - 148 in 3 months by giving up sodas and running every day but  Sunday.  Started out at 1 mile and got to 5.5 miles every day except Sunday.  But if you do a proper diet and start out at your own pace with cardio you can lose weight pretty fast.  Start off with a brisk walk or jog, but don't stop until you reach whatever goal you set.  You continue that goal for a week or 2 then step it up to another goal (I started at 1 mile and moved up to 2 miles then 3 and so on once I got comfortable.)  You just have to push yourself, if possible find a friend who would work out with you for extra encouragement.  Hope it all works out for you.

Hi.

I am a bit bigger in the stomach area and I really want to start losing that weight.

I am starting to cut down on what I eat but with a bit of exercise, it appears to not be working very well.

If anyone has any ideas or even stories to tell about their weight loss stories, that would be excellent.

Thanks, Alpha.

Excersise until you drop. A good amount of HIIT training may prove good not just for weight loss, but your endurance as well. However, the real effects in weight loss come from your food intake.

As for eating, rather than sticking to a diet, I instead tend to be more selective about what I eat. If what I'm going to eat isn't healthy, then it had better be tasty.

Fast food for example I find not worth it as the taste is simply mediocre. If you want sweets, again make it worth it. Make yourself some decent baked goods instead of the mediocre candy bar.

1. Eat less shitty food (lower calories/day, I don't know your height, weight, or activity level, but assuming Average Person, 1600 calories/day is a good deficit).

2. Get off your ass. You can be surprisingly lazy and still do this. Just go for a walk every day in the evenings for 30-60 minutes.

Diet beats Exercise for weight loss, basically every time. Temptation sucks, but have some perspective. Want some ice cream? Then have 1/2cup of ice cream, not 4 cups drowning in chocolate syrup. Don't have treats all the time, but don't never have treats either. Enjoy your life. Keep your weight loss goals in mind when selecting foods. Slowly cut back on the amount of food you eat each day so you aren't going "cold turkey" from 3000 cals/day to 1600 cals/day, that's a great way to break your will and reach for the cake. Nutrition != Diet, and is more complex than just calories and even than macromolecules, so there's more to it than can be said in these little posts. But if there's one good mantra...it's Fuck Sugar, Eat Veggies.

Exercise is good for you for reasons beyond burning energy, so everybody should exercise. For exercise... do something you enjoy. You will do it longer and more reliably than if you're reluctantly dragging yourself to do whatever 3-5 time a week routine is popular in the fitness world at the moment.

"Normal" weight loss is probably around 1-1.5 pounds a week. You could quite easily do 2-4 pounds a week, though that will require a decent level of exercise since you do not want to starve yourself (the cake... it's calling...). Keep in mind that Quick Fix solutions often lead to Quick Relapses. Make healthy eating and moderate exercise a part of your lifestyle, with no "end goal" in mind. You just do that shit now.

Eating healthy has nothing to do with losing weight.

That's not entirely correct. Eating healthy can definitely contribute to weight loss.

There are many factors: Nutrition, calorie intake vs expenditure, level of physical activity, etc.

Also, stuff from McDonald's isn't inherently unhealthy, anymore then cooking your own steak dinner is "unhealthy". It all depends on what you order, what toppings you get, and how much you eat.

If you're careful about what items you order, and what toppings you get, you can totally have a balanced and healthy diet while eating nothing but McDonald's. Take, for example, a Chicken Snack Wrap w/ a salad - it has your basic food groups: veggies, carbs, protein, and it's small and relatively low calorie. Compare that with a Double Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese and Bacon with a large fries - less variety and probably triple or quadruple the number of calories.

There is plenty of good nutritional advice here.

The main thing is to manage your attitude toward it.  You have to realize that you are not looking for a temporary solution, rather, you are looking to improve your life.  permanently.  That means you need a permanent change in your behavior and in your thinking, which is very hard.  It requires a lot of self knowledge and a conscious effort to change.  It also requires support from family and friends.  There may be certain foods that you need to remove from your life forever.
